At the range Thursday Mar.11

I went to the range last Thursday. Wasn't a planned trip but the winds were supposed to be very light and turning windy for the next several days. Got to take advantage of any calm days in the windy month of March. Took the Remington 540X with a recent scope swap to a fixed 16X that I had sighted in the previous day. Also took one of my best shooting CZ Grand Finales with a fixed 12X Leupold. Shot four 5 Shot groups from each rifle with a very good lot number of RWS Target and a good lot of Geco bolt rifle which is on a level of Norma Tac 22. The Remington being heavier and a wider stock to ride the bags better and more scope power was the best of the two but not by much. Four groups for the Remington were from the smallest at 3/16" to 3/8" for the largest. The CZ although not quite as accurate as the Remington was very good for a sporter barrel rifle at one group at 1/4" one at 3/8" and two groups at 7/16". On another day the CZ could win out. Those 452's can be amazing shooters but require a little more concentration on holding them steady and good follow through. I was more than happy that it was a perfect day for shooting rimfires and I had a dentist yank out a molar two days before and still had some jaw pain on the side of my face against the stock. Then Friday I had no pain but the weather turned very windy and haven't been back to the range anymore until it calms down. Have to not waste ammo this year on windy days.
I have some $20+ per box ammo to try in the Remington 540X and the 540XR but it is just a test as I won't be buying any. My shooting friend gave me some his rifle doesn't shoot well enough to compete in his matches with. I already saw it can shoot itty bitty groups out of the Grand Finale rifles my wife and I shoot.

Those are great groups. I’m a firm believer in good ammo. Especially if you get a good lot.

Love those groups.

We still have a good stash of premium 22 LR target ammo, but we've been hesitant to shoot any until the prices came back down to something a little more sane. We did keep the best of the best of our CZs with our two 453 Vs (17HMR and 22 LR) and our amazing 457 MTR, so we are ready to go. All there are proven sub MOA shooters at 100 yards, with the MTR a definite half MOA shooter. Would love to find a 540 Remington. I think I could make room for one of those.
