Range Report - Henry .22 Mag

Sorry, no photos.

Finally took my .22 mag (H001TLMP) out to run some rounds through it... Additionally, this was my first experience with Skinner sights. I can't say that I'm a huge fan.

The closest I could get to zero at 25 yards was a 1/2 inch low and 1/2 inch left and it got worse the further out. The pattern was strong even at 50 yards. The bead on the front sight covered the entire target at 100 yards.

I think I'm either putting a scope or buckhorn sights on this... Leave the skinner sights for something pretty.

You are using too small of a target 🎯

Seriously a half inch at 25 is good.

at 25 yards, if I hold dead dead center, there should be a hole at dead center after I send a round down range. Same at 50 yards. 100 I'm okay with being within an inch. (I think)

My factory buckhorn sights are pretty accurate. I was putting holes in a aresol paint can at 100 yards. Thats about the limit with my old eyes.

What brand ammo were you shooting? Not bad with the Skinner type sight but the buckhorn maybe more accurate with good eyes.
I'm using ghost ring type sights with most all my lever rifles now and my old eyes like them better.

To be honest with my SGR I took the Skinner sight off and mounted a Williams FP 94/36 and it required D&T on the side. It was well worth it for the D&T. Williams does make a FP that clamps on, but I already hand the FP 94/36 in my parts box. Much easier to sight in dead on at 25 yards.

I agree with you that the bead on the factory front sights are too large. I replaced all of mine with a Marbles front bead sight that the bead is much smaller. The smaller bead works well for me with the Skinner rear sight. Before I went to the smaller bead on the front sight, I used the top of the large bead for a six o'clock hold.
