Wednesday at the range

I went to the range and wanted to take something to shoot that hadn't been shot in a while. Back in a corner was a Remington 521T that had a sear issue that was causing it to decock on closing the bolt. Never went off closing the bolt but it was a pain having to work the bolt several times to get it to catch the sear. I had a spare cushion spring that came on the 513T Rems and I put it on the 521 and tightened one of the adjusters on the spring to push slightly up and change the position of the sear. Now it holds every time and pull weight is really good at 1 1/2 lb. So it went with me along with the Ruger Mk III. It was already shot in so I only had to check it for zero and start shooting. Still really deep snow at the range elevation and usually 5-6 degrees colder there. The old Remington showed me why I still love the old rifles. Shooting a good lot number of Blazers it did well on the target so I switched to shooting small weed stalks sticking up through the snow. They were from an inch to two or so inches out of the snow and the biggest were about the diameter of a drinking straw and others were smaller and the old Remington made it pretty easy to hit most of them with no problem. Distance to the top of the berm at the 50 yd back stop was 52-53 yds. I love shooting on the snow at those kind of targets as they show up really well. Some of the straw size targets you could see a hole through them and made for being able to shoot several shots until shooting them off below the snow line. I had enough fun to not notice my fingers were getting numb. I shoot with out gloves and with the temp at 25* it was a good thing there was no wind or I would have had to go home sooner. I can't believe I almost parted the Remington out because I could get double the price for parts than selling the complete rifle. This rifle is in great condition and was made in 1961 the year my wife was born so I need to keep it if it is just for that reason. Glad I made the right decision. Shot several boxes of ammo between the Remington and the Ruger Mark III. Take care and be safe. Shoot when you can.

Good job fixing the problem. I can remember shooting dandelions with a 10/22 and watching the seeds drift away. Oh the simple pleasures in life!
