Sunshine and warmer

Sun came out today and it got to the mid 40's with no wind. Couldn't resist taking the Ruger MKIII over to the range since tightening the mount and removing a pretty heavy carbon ring from the barrel. Found out shooting spent shot shells sticking half length out of the snow I feel 25 yds is not hard to hit, 30 yds makes a difference with lower % of hits on the first shot and 35 average 50% or less on most magazine full. This was from a sand bag rest standing shooting from a shelf the range care taker built for me. The Red dot really cuts down on percentage of hits compared to the 1-4 scope on 4x. With the red dot I would set a limit for me for squirrels at 35 yds or less to feel right about hitting them with a good killing shot. I just recently found out since Pa. finally passed the law to hunt small game with a semi 22 caliber or less it says no semi hand guns even in 22. I don't believe anyone in our game commission even goes hunting. Just a bunch of keyboard punchers. I would have been breaking the law because I had full intentions to hunt with the MarkIII. If I didn't like it so well I would trade it off or sell it to a local gun shop. Also had to wade snow almost to me knees to set up targets. No boot tracks except the ones put there by a dummy that had to go shoot.

Sunshine can sure make a difference. Same temperature here but with wind and humidity. Your MKIII is one of my favorites although I don’t have one.

Sorry to hear about the restriction on using 22 semi-auto pistols for small game hunting. Might be able to trade the Ruger for a revolver or even a Contender in 22 LR.
Know what you mean about wading through snow. We had almost 10" of snow, today and we're in for a week of below zero temps. Hope the cold doesn't come your way.

The forecasters say we will see the weather you are having. They have the only job you can be wrong so many times and still keep it so I pay little attention to their long range forecast. I think the best way to get a weather forecast is watch what the deer and other animals are doing. They hit it right when bad weather is headed our way with out the fancy instruments the forecasters use.

For sure. I've noticed that our two dogs can sense a change in the weather.
We'll be digging out, today. Will be clearing a path to our targets on our air gun range.
