Range time with S&W Model 25-7 .45 Colt

Got down to the range this afternoon for my first shots with the S&W 25-7. Made it into the 50's today so very comfortable to shoot but had to keep a close eye on my latest new range buddy...the Jack Russel squirrel hunter! You fire one shot and he shows up to see what you are doing/hunting!

So I was a bit on edge trying to tell where he was from his barks and visually. First shots were with my 250 gr. MB RNFP bullet loaded with 6 gr. of Red Dot and it seems to like that load for close group paper punching from 15 yds.
Next I tried some double action shooting with 2 hand grip from 7 yds at a quick pace with some older Underwood Ammo I had left over...250 gr. RNFP rated at 850 FPS. Very nice collection of holes in center that would take care of buisness! This is a NICE shooting revolver and rear sight was untouched from when I got it.
I had read on the forums that these .45 Colt Smiths tend to shoot high even with rear sight all the way down but I did not see this.
The sight was all the way down but I was hitting at my aim point which was a great relief!

Then spent some time plinking on the steel targets with one hand grip from various distances and seemed easy to get good hits except that pig was hard to get to! https://youtu.be/idJi-3l7z_A My brass can almost full and getting late in the afternoon so called it a great time with a revolver you can just pick up and shoot with very good results!
Now where the heck did that dog get to now?? I need to find out his name from the new neighbor down the road.
A very relaxing and fun day today!

Nice work, forty. It is true about the tendency vintage 25s shooting high. I had a 70s vintage 25 in 45 ACP and it did, indeed, shoot high with the rear sight pegged all the way down. I was going to have it modded with a higher front sight, but didn't want to drop its collectibility value. Got a chance to sell it and break even, so I let it go.

Looks like a fun day Forty. That 25-7 appears to be a great gun for the plinking you're doing. Enjoy.

You need to get yourself a bigger brass can so you can spend more time at the range. ;)

New gun shoots mighty fine forty. It is a fine looking gun. It appears to have a somewhat dulled or matte finish. Am I seeing that correctly? I like it.
Forty, that 6.0gr of Red Dot, does it fill the case pretty well? Thanks.

The factory finish is a satin like blue...not the glossy blue like the other older Smith&Wessons. It was a limited run of the Model 25 .45 Colt with the 5 inch barrel and nonfluted cylinder. Trigger action on it is really smooth with a very light SA pull like most S&W revolvers.
Now Red Dot looks about the same as Unique so it looks to be less filling than normal 8 gr. of Unique.
It shot all my loads really clean and I just sprayed some Ballistol down the barrel and ran a bore snake thru it...quick swab of the cylinder and ready to go! No leading even with the uncoated cast lead loads I shot.

Ok , thanks for that. Think I'll pick up a pound and give a whirl. Sure like that gun forty. Hoping my Taylor shoots close to that.
