September 22nd, 1860

Post by RanchRoper » Sat Sep 22, 2018 7:46 pm

Range time. 35F with an icy fog in the air. No wind today so I did some 50 & 100 yard work. My 1860 Henry rifle in 45 Colt. Open factory sights. Ammunition today was Western Munitions 250 gr LFN. Made in Calgary Alberta. 50 rounds. Rifle worked flawlessly as usual. Time for a clean tomorrow. I am feeling much less intimidated shooting 100 yds with this rifle; it will get the job done if I can do my part. Having the little binoculars helps immensely, as I can adjust. The targets curled up from the damp weather so I re-mounted them on a wall to photograph them...that's why no holes in the wood in case you were thinking "huh?"

50 yds, off hand standing

100 yds, 1-knee position, and taking time between shots to check with binoculars, 12 rounds, first few went left but started to get it later.

Last round was my coffee cup at 50 yds, filled it with stones and set it on top of the target board. Entry wound was the usual 45 Colt hole but the exit hole out the other side was rather explosive...but I thought that was a pretty good shot for 1 bullet left...haha

...and of course, a forum deputy marshal's best friend....the 1860 Henry

Deputy Marshal RR,

Sure would be an experience to someday, in person, see you shoot. Especially would like to hear the tale on how you so well handle the rifle's iron sights when shooting off hand. There seems to be practically nothing hindering the straight line between the rifle muzzle and the target's bull! Great shooting again.

And your cowboy tintypes always give us the best moments of your 1860 range outings! Yup, enjoyed the Range Report. :)

Nothin would be better than to Shoot with RR and some Henry forum folks. Maybe someday we could get a shoot planned somewhere. 35 degrees RR Im not even ready for that. Sir Henry would be proud of the coffee cup destruction.
