Range Report: home home on the range
It’s hot and windy yet a good day for plinking. I need to get the range ready for my friends visit from Montana. I can’t remember the last time I shot centerfire. That will change when I shoot some machine guns this next week.

Range Report
Yesterday was my first range outing of the year, and it was a beautiful morning. I was surprised that only four of the ten lanes were reserved, so it was especially quiet. One of the shooters even used a silencer. I shot 100 rounds of my 357 reloads at ten yards in the forty minutes before the first cease fire. The guns worked flawlessly. Sometimes, I did, too; but mostly I just had a good time. I shot the 2" King Cobra DA 50%, SA 50%. Those Hogue grips really soak up the recoil. No pain and all fun. Of course, shooting the SmokeWagon is the definition of fun.

Would this be a range where you can rent one or with a club that has a shoot sometimes? We "still" have that here in Va. I shot a real Thompson machine gun some years ago at a local range where you could rent them. Was some fast fun!

Re: Range Report: home home on the range
I’m not sure. My friend brought a MAC11 (.22LR and 9MM), an M2 Carbine and a STEN. Some were suppressed as were a few other semi-autos.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Fri May 22, 2026 8:57 amWould this be a range where you can rent one or with a club that has a shoot sometimes? Re: Range Report: home home on the range
A number of my friends own suppressors, more since the $200 fee was removed. I don't want my information on any additional lists, so I have been waiting for them to fully legalize suppressors. Would be nice to have them for varmint control here.

Re: Range Report: home home on the range
As far as machine guns go, I had friends who were Class III collectors. The guns one guy had were expensive enough. His ammo expenditures were ridiculous. But, to each his own. He also owned a couple cannons. Not models, not reproductions, actual cannons. Couple times a year the collectors met in the desert out west and shot cannons, mortars, machine guns... Had a blast. (Pun intended)

We shot a lot of rimfire, 9MM and 5.56Nato. Down by the house we shot a few thousand rounds of rimfire mostly sitting in these chairs.

Those two chairs look like comfortable shooting going on.
