Range Report: Texas Bond

Post by Sir Henry » Fri Feb 28, 2025 8:17 am

Instead of coffee this morning I decided to have Oolong tea. I must have set the temperature on the boiler to boil instead of 160 degrees because it was bitter. Oh well I had fun shooting the Bond in the early morning light.

I was aiming for the 10x50 foot berm and I hit it twice. This is a difficult pistol to aim and shoot.

Hit the broad side of the berm? Lol

I've never shot one, but I suspect I could throw one with more accuracy.

Yes, I have found the trigger pull on my Davis D-38 to be heavy. I figured that it was due to the exposed trigger. But, the pull has lighten, as I oil it and it wears in.

The big problem with the Bond is you pull the trigger down more than back.

Never shot one either but Ive always thought that trying to shoot one would not be fun from what I have read about the trigger

You could shoot someone three feet away from under the card table.

I had a little derringer in 22 mag. for a good while, the extraction was always sticky.
The youngest daughter always liked it, so for her 18th birthday I gave it to her.
Never had the desire to replace it, now I'm not much of a snub-nose kinda guy but I'd buy one before I'd buy another derringer.

On a practical level, I can understand. On a nostalgia level, I did and still do look at a derringer as completing a set: level action, revolver and derringer. Maybe, I have looked at too many Westerns. In fact, my wife and I have been watching Have Gun-Will Travel. The lead character carries a derringer as a backup. Of course, snub-nose had not arrived on the scene yet. So, I guess the derringer filled the bill, until it did. However, they still appeal to me. I thought about replacing the one that I have or getting another. But, none, until now, seemed to catch my attending. I like the American Derringer. If I every decide to be in the market for another, I would probably look at that one, if the price is not too bad. Derringers seem like nice pocket guns to me.

I had the 45/410 barrel for mine but sold it along with a 9MM and another receiver. I think the 45/410 would be the best practical version.

Mines is a 38 Special. I think that two shots would stop or slow something .
