Ranch Hand work at the range.........

Post by fortyshooter » Tue Apr 13, 2021 4:29 pm

Today was grass cutting day down at the ranch range and brought along my Ranch Hand in 45 Colt of course.
A great little helper if you need him while checking trail cameras along the creek! Took a quick couple shots at a target that was still out and aiming for the top dot from 10 yds..... snake eyes pictured inside trigger area of lever! Also hit the gong a few times and a swinging plate or two before hitting the road.
Ammo was the MB coated 250 gr. RN with 8.5 Unique....good Colt 45 all around load.

Interesting Mare's Leg, forty. Is that stock Henry or did you do some mods?

It's a Rossi Ranch Hand/Mares Leg and I shortened up the barrel from 12 inch to 9 shortened up the fore stock and made a new brass pin front sight mounted on barrel band. Butt stock same length.

Forty you have some talent there shortening that Ranch Hand. That's a really great job you did. I could handle the wood work and make it look functional and nice, but cutting the barrel - no way. There's no telling what direction that bullet would be going when I got done with it.

Well I cut the barrel with a hacksaw....faced it off square in the mill....hit the muzzle end with a 30 degree counter sink and then re-blued the muzzle end. Also had to find barrel center on the barrel band and drill hole for a brass .125 pin for the front sight. Refinished the stock too.
Just another shop project!

I used to build and repair these kinds of things for 40+ years!

Very impressive background, forty. No wonder you could do such a nice job on the ML.
