Stopped at the range

Post by bandit1250 » Sat Jan 16, 2021 7:34 pm

I was headed to the woods for a late morning hunt. I was going to hunt a few hours then shoot the Ruger Marks and my CZ 452 Lux that has been sitting in the safe and not getting shot. When I was passing the range there was no one there so instead of hunting I stopped there. Set up my target board to shoot the rifle first. Before I even walked back to the range tables the wind really picked up and the sleet and snow started to fall. I almost went back and got the target and left but I came to shoot and I did. The rifle shot good for the bad conditions but I didn't shoot more than maybe 30 rounds in the CZ until my fingers were numb and called it quits. I did shoot the empty shot shell hulls with the rifle I had set up instead of getting out the Rugers. Came back home instead of hunting as the weather got worse by the minute. When I got back down to lower elevation it was not blowing or snowing but a very light rain falling hardly getting the road wet. Maybe get a better day next week.

I hate it when it’s so cold you can cut and bruise a hand and not even know it. Days are slowly getting longer.

Thirty minutes is about max for me when shooting in cold weather, mostly due to cold fingers, but just general shales and shivers. I can and still do stay out in the cold for very long periods if I'm active, but its hard to stay warm when you're just standing/sitting and shooting. One big plus for us is staying home in the winter to shoot our airguns in the backyard for 30 minutes. Beats packing up the car and driving to the range to only shoot for 30 minutes. Staying home to shoot even allows us to take a break and step back into the house for a hot cup of coffee.
