December 16th, 1860

Post by RanchRoper » Wed Dec 16, 2020 7:26 pm

Some frontier fun on a December day....35F, breezy as usual. Took my Henry 1860 45 Colt with me. Shooting 200 gr LRNFP and 7.0 gn Universal. 50 yd work today and a couple of 100 yds targets too. I wanted to use the ladder sight today as I just ordered one for the black powder long rifle too. Just wanted to make sure I did the right thing!

First up, 50 yds, shooting from 1 knee. 12 rounds. No ladder sight for this, just the basic rear sight notch.

100 yds, from 1 knee...ladder sight up and you can follow my trail from the upper left as I tried to get the windage and elevation figured out in the wind today. 8" target, and finally started to get them in the black. Tricky but I shoot this rifle an awful lot and know it pretty well.

Same distance for the last one, only I shot standing up off hand which I don't do a lot of. Can certainly see the difference in my aim. But got a few on the paper. If my life depended on it, I would drop to 1-knee for sure...

figured you'd have one on order sooner rather than later .... I'm really looking forward to seeing your round ball targets at those ranges .... as usual your kneeling targets were outstanding

All those targets look pretty good to me. The standing target at 100 yds is not shabby at all. Standing shooting offhand takes a lot of practice. Something not many of us have the time or willing to invest the time needed. I know I'd be happy with that target. Well done.

Good job RR. Ive never shot in the drop to one knee position. Most of my shooting is off hand levergun and Hawken.

Just make sure if you ever do it's drop TO one knee not drop ON one knee....the 2nd one hurts like heck.

I will say RR you have that Henry dialed in to a just pick it up and shoot it and it's there any and every time!
My Ruger 1911 Cmd is like that within 50 yds.

Yep, that's good shooting RR with those irons. My vision just cannot stay clear with irons after a couple shots. You have that 1860 dialed in.
