Haven't tried any cowboy action ammo although I would like too. Lucky to find anything right now and living in NY state makes it even tougher because of shipping restrictions

Bmur66,

Back when I shot one of those punishing 45-70’s I put a slip-on LImbsaver recoil pad and that helped my shoulder considerably. It will increase yourlength of pull however. 1” three hole at 100 is darn fine shooting with that monster.

I’ve shot both the Winchester and Remington CAS loads. The Remington 405 grain “all rifles” loads are amazing for shooting more than 2 or 3 at a go. The felt recoil is way way down, and they are plenty accurate. I was shooting them out of an 1895 GS Marlin with an 18” barrel.
SGC .22 LR Stripped and oiled up
BBSC .357 w Skinner Express & Patridge
BBSC .44 Magnum with Skinners
Marlin 1895GS .45-70 w RPP Cloverleaf
Marlin 336BL .30-30 w Skinner LoPro 2 and Sig 2-7x
1912 Winchester 1894 .30 WCF

Yes, I have one of those slip on recoil pads but of course I forgot it at home. They definitely help soften the impact.
