I see .490 balls available on line again now. But .495 are sold out. Gonna check a store here locally on Wednesday then order from there.

That’s next on my search list. Lead then powder then patches. I want about 10 lbs of powder in storage.

Been a busy week but a productive one. I have 5 lbs of powder on the way, plus 3 boxes of .480 balls. Tomorrow going to Lethbridge to get some .495 balls and 3 lbs of 3fg powder which will shoot fine in my rifle as well (with a lesser powder charge). Making my own patches now, and looking into casting my own lead.

Soon be set up for the next few years for both muzzleloaders and cartridge guns.

I think you will find that the 3F will shoot close to what you are using currently with the same charge of 50 grains. Ive shot 3f before and been right there and even a little more. What brand of 3f are you getting. Got 25lbs of Old Eynsford while I was in Texas to add to my stash of 12 lbs I had

It's Triple 7 3f. Going to Calgary in a couple of weeks and may get some Old Eynsford to try. The Pedersoli guy I bought my rifle from stocks it.

All I ever use is 3f. Never had a problem with it.

Never shot any Triple 7. I know is easier for you to come by than black. I have always shot the real stuff. Not as bad to get a hold of here. What do they charge for black and 7 up ur way

T7 is $40 to $50 a lb. I am picking up 4 lbs of Goex in a couple of weeks. 2f. $40 per lb.

It's not cheap that's for sure. But that 4lbs will give me about 15 lbs of powder total.

Any reason why real BP cannot be kept in a dry metal cabinet with other powders? I want to keep all my powder in the shed and out of the house. Dry, just no heat in winter. Plus the summer temp in the shed is basically what it is outside. So 90F is 90F no matter what. Maybe that's an issue.

Well remember when BP was all there was it was kept in wooden kegs in sheds with whatever the temps were...no A/C back then. Just keep it dry.

Can’t speak to black powder but smokeless powder hates heat more than cold. Heat makes smokeless breakdown more quickly.

Black powder doesn't break down. Hot, cold doesn't matter. Just keep it dry. Mine is stored in a storage shed and I have never had a problem. I have well over a life time supply out there.

Had a chat with my Uberti dealer today. I bought my 1860, 1885 and revolver from him. He says he can cast all the .490 lead I'd ever want at a reasonable price. Also thinks he can get #11 caps as well. Let's see what he comes up with.



Bonus....my 5 lbs of T7 and .480 lead arrived today! Pick up 4 lbs of Goex in a couple of weeks and then I am stocked up pretty good to run out the clock on the shortages hopefully.

Try some T7 sometime. Reduce your normal BP load 15% they say.

Ok Ill try some someday and see whats up. Next time Im at the shootin store Ill get me some 3f T7 and shoot it in the pistola

Got 2500 .490 balls coming from a guy casting them for me. Pure lead not swaged. No more lead supply problems.
