I just read on another forum, and from a vendor, that Nikon is out of the rifle scope business as of Jan 2020. Man, did not see that one coming at all till today. Always thought Nikon had a good market there. What the heck!?

I learned a long time back to never say never but I don't put much stock in this report .... as I recall, the first time I heard this same rumor was back in 2010 and it circulated again two or three years later .... it will be interesting to see if anyone can come up with a link to a solid source

JEBar, believe me, I understand how these rumor mills work[sort of]. The vendor I mentioned is here. Doug at cameraland, phone #: [516] 217-1000. cameralandny.com. Pretty reliable source. We shall see.

Got 4 or 5 of them here, when I saw the title, thought maybe you going to tell me they were having a big sale.

I'm not sure if this means anything but I went to the corporate web page and riflescopes are not listed in their product line catagory of sport optics. Perhaps my search was in error.

Nikon has a couple of different web sites, based on the product category, and not all are linked from the corporate "nikon dot com". In this case the right url is
https://www.nikonsportoptics.com/en/nik ... index.page.
That said, they may be spinning off that product category as a separate company. Large corporations do that a lot for purely business reasons - profit, shareholder interests, etc. .

Nothing in the financial news that I could find related to Nikon Scopes.
As for cameras, that business is in trouble. From a few days ago.

Mark, I agree. I thought maybe, some folks would want to know. Nikon has been around a long time to just stop dealing. Time will tell.

This is what I found on the subject:
https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/nikon ... -business/
I’ve been using Nikon gear since I was a pro photographer starting back in the mid 80s. I own one cheap UTG scope (not mounted) and everything else is Nikon for me. They make an outstanding product. Apparently they will continue with the rest of their hunting/shooting related products, so it must be a market share based decision. Better that than a “we want nothing to do with firearms” kneejerk decision based on politics and social pressure.

Despite getting out of the scope business, I would hope they would still honor warranties.

Dang! Most of my 'scopes are Nikon...good product at a reasonable cost. Leupold is pricey up here...I may have to start taking a closer look at the Burris offerings.

For a while anyway, until they run out of parts to service them.

I have a Burris on one of my rifles, it's a nice scope, but I like my Nikon's better.

For anyone interested in grabbing a Nikon scope while they're available, Natchez has some good prices, especially on the factory refurbs. If you don't mind some minor cosmetic blemishes, the refurbs carry the same warranty as new, at a pretty good discount. I took advantage and upgraded two of my rifles, plus a couple spares.
