Open sights, anyone?
Re: Open sights, anyone?
75% of all my firearms and airguns have nothing more than open sights or peep sights. The ones I have scoped are usually low power fixed magnification. I know this verges on heresy but I like and ENJOY shooting my BBS with the supplied Marbles open sights.

At nearly 66, wearing "blended lenses" (tri-focals?) glasses, and having some issues with floaters, I no longer trust my eyes enough to use iron sights for serious work, like hunting. I've used scopes since I was 19, though, so I have them dialed in. I still like low power fixed scopes, and also use some low range variables, and planning to fit a Burris fixed 2.75X to my single shot 45-70 when it arrives. What baffles me these days is why so many people seem to need a scope that could discern the rings of Saturn on a hunting rifle. 4-14X? Really? Or maybe I've just become a curmudgeon

Folks, for me it's been a lesson about not getting locked into one way of thinking when I shot. Exploring different techniques and equipment options has made me a better shooter.
Re: Open sights, anyone?
Highest powered scope I own and/or use is a 4x12 variable. It resides on my 204 Ruger. I shoot smaller varmints at longer distances so I do need some magnification. But yes otherwise I do agree with Curmudgeon Yornoc3 on the silly trend of Hubble telescopes on hunting rifles. BillyBob got himself a 6x18-50 power on his 308 win to shoot deer at 100 yards?!?!?!?!

Sold both barrels and the Encore action and kept the scopes . They were the last scoped guns I ever owned ....never found a Gun to put them on . I love peeps

Beautiful guns and shooting, as always, TGR. I knew you'd be along to share some of those peep sight masterpieces with us.
I'll say one thing for going with iron sights. Not only makes life simpler, but saves a ton of money. A good scope can cost as much as a gun, these days.

Tx, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who keeps missing the dime.
