Does anyone use a red dot on their Henry BBS?

When I got my BBS I tried it with the iron sites. I then decided to scope it. It's alright, however, wish I had tried the red dot before scoping.

I tried what to me is a high dollar Aimpoint Micro H-1 Red Dot ===> https://www.amazon.com/Aimpoint-Micro-S ... 177&sr=8-7 <==== on my Henry BBS 44 Mag .... bottom line, it is a fine red dot but didn't work well for me at longer ranges (100 yds and up) that I want to be able to fire our rifle .... some days bright sun made it hard to use at 75+ .... some target background colors also impacted its ease of use .... I ended up mounting it on a 44 Mag Redhawk .... at the 50 +/- yard distances I shoot with it, it does well

I haven’t. Probably because I don’t own a Henry BBS (Yet!!).

HOWEVER - I did have an ultra dot on my in-line muzzle loader. The ML was set up for deer shooting 400 grain conicals. It was an excellent set up for deer. Put the red dot on the boiler room and squeeze the trigger. Super effective for deer out to 100 yards.

Point is, depends on your application. If your intent is to drop critters from yotes to deer out to 100 yards or a touch beyond it is superb. You can keep both eyes open, super fast target acquisition, eye relief and exact lineup behind the optic are not issues. Zero magnification makes it as at home in the woods as it is in an open field. A red dot would probably work well plinking steel at reasonable distance as well.

If it weren’t for old eyes seeing a fuzzy red blob instead of a nice crisp dot the ultra dot would still be atop my muzzle loader.

If you’re looking for precision shooting at 50 yards and beyond then the red dot probably isn’t your best choice. If you do go with a red dot do yourself a favor and get a good one. It’ll have to stand up to some recoil and a bit of field abuse. Buy once cry once.

well, thank you .... we bought her new in 1992 .... since then she's literally fired tens of thousands of rounds .... had to send her back to Ruger once of a broken spring of some sort .... self installed trigger spring kit .... has put deer in the freezer .... the slits are rifle style trapezoidal ports cut into the barrel by Mag-na-port .... they reduce felt recoil and muzzle jump .... I'm sold on the process and have them install their ports in all of or big boomer long guns and shotguns as well

I can attest to JEBar .44 with the red dot. I have fired it. I and Jim were hitting pieces of clay about the size of quarters. First time with it for me. Great revolver with the perfect load Jim has developed.

What is this perfect load? I’m using 19.6 grains of 2400 under 240 grain hornady XTP. Winchester Large Pistol Primers. Winchester brass.

arthritic joints in my right hand make painful to shoot our long standing 44 Mag load in our Redhawk .... after a good bit of experimentation, I landed on 7.7 gr of Unique pushing a Nosler 240 gr JHP bullet .... I haven't found that the brand of case or primer makes any difference .... not what I'd consider to be a hunting load bur out to 50 +/- yards it has performed well .... per our chrony 950 fps muzzle .... did require a major adjustment of the Aimpoint ... doesn't hurt to shoot

I actually have red dots on more guns than iron sights and have red dots on almost as many guns as scopes. Red dots are very much bread and butter kinds of sights for me.

I put a SIG Romeo5 on my H001L and headed to the range today. Ordered and added the DIP Inc rail a couple days ago. Sighting in at 25 yards was a snap and accuracy was good at 25 and 50 yards.Next project will be to adjust the Skinner Sights on the H001TRP. The Glow In The Dark paint applied to the front sight bead looks like a very small flashlight in my basement. Hopefully it will look the same at the range.

I really like my Romeo red dot. So easy to use. An inexpensive way to start into the red dot world. Enjoy your shooting.

please post updates on the effectiveness of the Glow In The Dark paint ... I'm curious as to how long it last

I as well have one of those Sig Romeo red dots . I think its headed for my second Ruger PC Carbine in 40 S&W

What's the approx cost of the Romeo, and can it be mounted on rifle or pistol?

My neighbor bought one of these for his AR. I was pretty impressed with it. Its a little bigger than the sig but it has a lot of features for the price. I kind of liked it. On a side note its a veteran owned company which is another reason to buy one in my opinion.

Thanks for the info Al. Been considering red dots for a while, so any info is greatly appreciated. They just seem to make sense for older eyes.

The "Glow in the dark" paint looked good in my basement after exposure to a 60 watt lightbulb. However it didn't do that well in the dim lighting at the range. It did eliminate seeing two brass beads though. When I picked up the "Glow in the dark" paint I also picked up a bright white paint pen. I removed the "Glow in the dark" paint and applied two coats of the white paint. It passed the basement vision test but will see how it works at the range. Local PDs are using the range to practice for their 2020 qualification so it may take a while
