Front Sight

Love shooting my new Henry but my old eyes don't work as good as days in the past with the open sights. Skinner brass receiver sight would look good on my Big Boy 45 Colt brass. Looking for feedback from all who did this sight upgrade. Main question is did you have to replace the front sight? I know the military peep on my M1 works great.
Thanks

Your best bet is to talk to Andy at Skinner Sights. Usually the answer is "maybe." You probably have to install the peep sight and try it. If it works, great. If not, they have different height front sights to try. Some shooters end up filing the front blade to get their elevation right.

On my Henry Big Boy .45 Colt, I changed both the front and rear sights to the TruGlo fiber optic sights. These are the same mode/version that I put on my Golden Boy. The TruGlo model says it is for the Ruger 10/22 but they also work fine on the Henry Big Boy. I'm getting ready to put a set on my Henry Big Boy .357 also. Oh, and I also have started using the pinhole eye patches on my glasses. That helps greatly for me.

Thanks for the info on the sights retAFShooter. I am trying a SeeAllOpenSight on my Big Boy 45 now, later this summer I hope to have shot it enough to decide if I want to stick with it. So far it seems pretty good.

Hey Wisconsin - I put the skinner "big boy express" sights on a brass Big Boy 357 for the same reason you are thinking about - old eyes. These sights made a huge improvement for me. I did not have to change out the front sight. After I sighted these sights in, the aperature receiver ended up about 1 1/2 turns up from the fully bottomed position. I'm really pleased with these sights - Andy Skinner is also a pleasure to work with.

Welcome, to the forum. tractortad! I recently put one on mine, too, and it's a great improvement.

I put a blued Skinner rear on my BBS and the stock front worked okay for me (barely). However I'm a huge fan of the XS front blade sight with the white stripe, so I ordered one just a tad taller from XS and it worked out great. Gave me a little more adjustment and the white stripe really works well with a peep. I have a Marlin 336T in 30-30 with a Williams peep rear and the XS white stripe front. These rifles are a joy to carry and my 62 year old eyes really appreciate the sight upgrades.
