For some birds, the bird feeder is a place to find other birds to eat.

Got that right Stan! The wife loves feeding and watching all the birds. We have feeders and suet cakes out, so that sight is not uncommon to us either.
I do love Raptors though.

Happens all the time in my backyard. Have a big hawk that patrols the area from the field north of the house.I see the feather remains in the backyard under the big pine tree.

Even saw those Cooper Hawks when I lived in suburban Chicago. They made a good living by setting up routes of all the backyard bird feeders. I still see them up, here, out in the north woods, but actually not as often as I saw them in Chicago. Very adaptable bird.

Coopers and Sharpies were once considered too shy and nervous of people to ever nest near people.
It's all about habitat.
Sloping hillsides, mature trees, and water.

Good point. The Chicago suburbs are laced with wooded waterways, mainly as a result of county forest preserves. Lots of good nesting habitat for Coopers and other wildlife, right adjacent to the busy city.
