the article found at this link ===>
http://fortyfiveseventy.com/2013/10/ ... frica/ <=== is written by a fellow who is reported to be an African professional hunter .... in the article he mentions several calibers and rifles with different actions .... while much of his print is directed toward a Marlin, there is no reason a Henry wouldn't perform equally well .... the more I learn about the capability of the current generation of Lever Action 45-70, the more impressed I become .... one point seems to sum it up, "The 45/70 Government in standard Lever Gun form is most certainly a rifle / caliber that would be suitable for a safari to Africa and is capable of killing the largest of the game we have to pursue."

I like the point that the lever action allows one to get off many shots, definitely a consideration when something is trying to eat you.

There are so many bullets available for the 45-70
That make it a great choice for just about anything.
I would love a Gatling gun in 45-70. They have some cool video s on. U tube.
P.s. I would have to get a progressive reloading
Setup to keep up with the fireing rate.

Now you're talking!

[as long as it's a
Henry Gatling gun, of course!

With it.

This is my first post on the forum. I realize that this is an older post, but wanted to say, that I took a Marlin 45-70 guide gun to South Africa, back in 2008. I took 7 head of plains game, using 300 gr. nosler partitions. The 45-70 is an awesome for anything you would hunt in North America, and most, if not all critters, elsewhere. The Henry 45-70 would do a great job, with the proper bullets, in Africa. If the forum will let me, here are some pics of the trophies I took, over there.
My Kudu.
My photo bucket account is only letting me copy one pic. When I get it figured out, I post some more pics.

outstanding .... first, welcome to our community, happy to have you with us .... isn't that a Kudu ..?.. any idea what it weighed ? .... does Nosler still produce the 300 grain partition for a 45-70

Yes, it's a Kudu. No, sadly, Nosler quit making the 300 gr. partition. Thanks for the welcome. I think I have the photobucket thing figured out. Will try to post some other pics. The kudu weighed about 650 lbs. Size of a decent elk.

Still don't have the copy/paste right for this forum. Anyway, here's my warthog.

if you save the pictures on your computer you can directly upload them to the forum without going through a program like photobucket .... just click on Attachment below and then on Add Files .... find the picture and click to upload .... the pictures will appear on the forum in reverse order from the order in which upload them .... the first one you upload will be the last the series shown

They were all very intrigued with it. I let two of the shoot it. They thought it was a hoot. I was trying to erase the img above, no luck. I'll take you advice and try the above for posting pics. Thanks!

I've taken Black bear, and several wild hogs with my guide gun. The scope is a leupold 1-4x 20mm shotgun scope. The scope can take a beating. I went back to Africa in 2011, with my son on a dangerous game hunt. I legally had to shoot a different caliber rifle to take a cape buff and a tuskless cow elephant. I used a Ruger No. 1 in 375 H&H mag. Both were 1 shot kills and the scope did great. Here's a pic of the bear . The bear wasn't huge, but I was happy with it. It was a cinnamon phase.
