ParForce sheath knife

I picked up a nice little ParForce fixed blade knife at the weekend. It has a 440C stainless blade, which is just short of 4" long - 98mm - and 3.7mm thick, and it has antler/staghorn scales. The sheath is made of a good grade leather, and it's so thick that it'll probably still be around when the knife is just a distant memory!

It isn't an expensive knife by any stretch of the imagination, but it's well made and should be fine as a fingernail picker.

That's a nice looking knife Les. I had never heard of it before. It seems to be German made from what little I could find on the internet. Is that correct?

A good sheath usually indicates a good knife from what I have found. Nice set up there.

Yes, you're correct Dave. They are made by/for Frankonia in Germany. I have to admit that I didn't know about Parforce either until I bought this one, but they have some really nice knives.

I have always had a hankering for a double edged dagger type knife, and Frankonia have quite a few, so this could be the start of a collection.

Gents, I wish I could share your affinity for knives. They all look the same to me; something to be sharpened and cut stuff. I keep a few in different sizes and shapes. When I loose one I replace it.

Congrats on your purchase. I also like fixed-blades.

And when I see a lanyard hole, I think of paracord to hang there. Some of the options I've seen available nicely dress up a knife handle. BTW, do you have the choice with the sheath to vertical carry the knife? I have two sheaths for that type of carry, and really find it very comfortable.

Ah, starting a collection! Yes, a cool thing to do. I just started my small knife collection late this past summer, and it is a most interesting and enjoyable hobby. I'd say you are "pointed" in the right direction!

Agreed, Henry88. Your use for knives is exactly what they are around for...they are to "cut stuff." Absolutely right on. I'm quite a newbie, and just got into collecting knives this last August. I don't think I've yet gotten to the "knife nut" point, but somewhat heading in that direction!

I've posted several times here in the knives forum. Your comment reminded me of our chats in a post where I put some photos of a couple of my fixed-blade, skeletonized knives. Anyway, when I was trying to grab some descriptive words to highlight what I thought about the fixed-blades I have, Les chimed in with his thinking:

There is something really visceral about a well made knife. I doubt if anybody could really define the feeling. It just "is".

I think he pegged it quite well. In the same vein, it's a similar feeling whenever I take my smooth lever-action Henry carbine out and shoot some rapid-fire rounds....and at the same time, shoot very well! The good feeling is hard to put into words, but to echo Les, It just "is."

I don't own a for display, safe queen firearm .... ours are well taken care of but you can take a look at them and tell they are well used .... that also goes for the ones that have been passed down through the family ,,,, in short, they have earned every blemish and more .... for us, knives also fit into that category .... its been decades since we bought a fixed blade knife, the half dozen or so we have work for a living and serve us well .... I enjoy looking at knives but unless I find one that will do a better job than my Buck 110, I'd be hard pressed to spend money on it ... in fact, I used one so much that I had to send it back to Buck to have the blade replaced .... thanks to the folks here who post pictures and comments about various knives, I really enjoy reading them
