I am really starting to like the Jumbo Trapper knife pattern. I started with a Camillus and added a Marbles. I was carrying the Marbles to save the Camillus for display. The quality was good, but I wanted better. I found a great Remington USA made Bullet Jumbo Trapper. It came with the box, wrapping paper and information sheet. It had been gently used. A few strokes on the ceramic rod and it was almost scary sharp. I noticed it was a little unevenly sharpened, but that will get taken care of when I have a free moment.

This will be an every day carry knife. I have it in a Buck 110 leather pouch. It's a tad short for that pouch, so a Pink Pearl Eraser gave up a portion of it's body to fit into the bottom of the pouch. Perfect fit and the 110 can go back in without trouble by dumping the Pearl back out. The quality is excellent on this knife and I'm glad I got it.

Question. There are a lot of ceramic rods on the market. Do you recommend a certain brand for good quality and use? I'd like to sharpen my knife blades --- it's passed the time to do that! Thanks.

I bought two ceramic rods from Smokey Mountain knife works for two bucks a piece. they are great.

You can also touch up the edge on the bottom of a ceramic coffee mug. Just use the unglazed portion. A plate or bowl for that matter too. I use a sharpener and then touch up on the ceramic rod. I don't use a sharpening steel anymore. Just the ceramic. I have certain coffee mugs that do a great job.

Back in the olden days people sometimes used a belt or leather strap.

Yup, them olden days!
My Dad did that every day after shaving with his straight-edge razor......I watched him often do that. But I was so young I never really knew what was happening when he ran the blade up and down the belt.

Also remember there were some "ouches" he got from using it!

I use the leather strop after the ceramic rod if I want the best edge on a knife. I have a straight razor that I used daily for a few months. There is definitely is a learning curve. I now use a double sided safety razor daily.
