info source on knives

Post by PT7 » Wed Aug 10, 2016 7:12 am

Good Day, Henry Folk.

I have gained a new interest in knifes since first reading this Forum's posts. I know it doesn't have a lot of posts; but after all, we are first and foremost a Henry rifle group!

OK. Does anyone here participate in any knife forum? Is there an informative one you might recommend I check out? It would also be cool, if it were filled with friendly and helpful folk like our Henry group here. ;)

TIA! :)

I like www.bladeforums.com for good knife discussion.

I don't post there very frequently but it seems to be a solid group of informative users.

When you are ready to buy, I really like www.bladehq.com for their selection, pricing and service.

I've been on Bladeforums for a while now. I like it. It's not as friendly as here, but it is fairly tightly modded and you will enjoy the experience. You will learn a lot about knives from there too.

I would argue this is the friendliest forum I've been a part of. That is a discussion for a different thread though!

Appreciate both of your pointers, DD and JCN...thanks. It's always easiest when more than one person recommends the same thing! ;)

JCN -- I found http://www.bladehq.com web site earlier this week. Actually ran into a Buck knife that I really liked, and went ahead and ordered my first-ever Buck! It is riding the Pony Express, errr USPS ride, as I pen this note! When I get it I'll post a photo or two, and a brief chat about my Buck choice.

DD -- I've briefly checked out Bladeforums today, and there sure is a lot there to read & learn! I actually found a thread with a "reminder discussion" to all the members about being a "newbie" to knives and to the Forum. Basic pointers how to welcome them and treat them kindly. Cool title to the post: "We were all new here once." (Maybe blade chat etiquette?!?) Anyway, I'm not quite through it all, but it has been a good read so far, and highlights the "friendly" aspect of using web forums. Quite a number of common-sense "points" were made!

Have a great evening!

Tracking says the Buck is to arrive tomorrow. I also can't wait to see it!

I read a little more on BladeForums last evening, and found an pretty honest assessment on buying knives from one person. Since I'm a newbie to knives, it caught my attention. This lady said she's been "into knives" for just over a year, and stated "I have bought a few knives I regret and have learned from." I had not thought about making a purchase one might "regret," but understand that it could end up that way. It was somewhat of an eye opener, and a useful caution. Good reads so far on this Forum. Again, thanks to you and JCN for suggesting it.

There are a few that I've been disappointed with over the years. It's tough buying online before handling one in person. My favorite knife was purchased at a local gunshop after carefully selecting it from a display case. Often much cheaper online though.

PT7,

I will PM you my screen name on Blade Forums. Over there look for a man named David Martin. Our own Cate is a member there. 300 bucks is a great moderator. You will learn plenty, especially from the three I have just named off.

Got your PM...thanks for that, and also for noting the three helpful folk on Blade Forums. Didn't know Cate was there...

I was gone for most of today, but when I got home my new Buck was here a day early...cool. :D I'm going to write a new thread here, post some pictures, and intro the knife. This will be fun!

PT7,

I use my real name, Catherine, over there as I do here.

The BUCK section is my favorite section on the BF forum although I have posted in other sections on and off. I still post in a few other sections on and off.

I sign my name, Cate, when I am in a hurry. Some old forum friends of mine from the late 90's and on called me Cate too. Some of my offline friends call me Cate too.

This KNIFE section IS growing here too.

Hi, Cate,

First of all, it's good to "see" you posting again! We've not chatted very much, but I always enjoyed reading your comments.
Trust you are doing well again.

As you and Dave agreed, our Henry "knife forum" here is growing, and for me it's been great to participate and learn some new stuff. I'm trying to get a little more involved in the BF Forum, too, but that site is quite huge, almost maze-like. Been having a little problem navigating, but will get better at it....I hope! ;) For instance, I have been looking for a BF forum dedicated to Swiss Army knives. Cannot find that yet, but of course, they may not have one. So I'll keep on the search. I'm definitely a newbie over there. Whenever I get a little more situated, I may say "hey" to you and Dave sometime! One final comment on the BF site. I "bumped" into a very interesting chat with subject "How many is too many?" Lots of fun comments to read as folk expressed their widely different thoughts on knife ownership. I really enjoyed it, and smiled at many of the comments.

Again, Welcome back! Have a great day.

Hi....and thanks, Cate.
I am enjoying my knives along with the chats that have been happening, both here and I'm starting some on BF, too. One BF discussion that has been fun is that I'm trying to track down the exact model of my oldie SAK. A couple of BF folk noted I had identified mine incorrectly. Not surprising at all, since I got my first SAK more than three decades ago!! So I'm on the hunt to name my oldie, with the good help of those folk.

Mentioning the BF. Dave had told me you were a member there, and I did find you. In fact, I sent you a "Friendship Requested" message (anyway, I think it's a message. A little complicated to communicate on the BF, but I'm learning). Anyway, I realized you don't know my moniker on BF, which is different than my moniker here. Look for bozhidar47 and you'll find me on BF. Hope to maybe see you there sometime, too.

Take care of yourself, and have a great day!
