If you have 300 gr. 44 Mag bullets that have the crimp groove in the standard 240 gr. location this will give you a 1.700+ COL which may be to long for
some lever rifles to chamber. I load these in Starline 44 Special brass to get a nice 1.580 COL. This worked fine in my old 44 Mag Henry but was having bullet stability issues I thought was the load. This was later proven to be due to my Henry's over sized bore and slow twist rate which standard weight bullets had trouble also.
So I will try them again in my 1873 Uberti/Winchester .44 Mag carbine andat same load to start with at 11 gr. of Alliant 2400. I was getting 1160 to 1220
FPS using this load out of my Henry with 17 inch barrel and the 1873 has a 19 incher.
The couple of dummy loads I made cycle like hot butter even with that wide flat nose bullet....sweet! So more range fun/testing coming with this setup! Might even try some Unique powder and at a lighter than Magnum cased load of course.

That blue on the 1873 sure looks good!

Did it have any trouble ejecting that unfired round?

Haven't fired any of these yet but it ejects the loaded round fine.

Forty, This is off topic, but have you ever used Accurate #9 in reloading .44 Mag? In both my S&W model 29 Classic revolver and my Henry .44 Mag BBB, #9 accuracy has been outstanding with either jacketed or cast bullets of various weights. For example, at 75 yds with the Henry, I am achieving 3"-4" groups with 260 gr. cast bullets, atop 17 grs. of #9. Velocity is running about 1,600 FPS. One of #9's benefits is that it is a "universal" powder for just about any type of .44 Mag reloading.

No I haven't tried that powder but thanks for mentioning it. Next time at the local shop I will look for it.
