Bake, are you referring to the .357 Rem mag?

There are a number of books with Data for Rifle length barrels. From what I understand there are limitations though. Some rifles have weaker actions than others. The Lyman 50th book has specific load data using 20" barrels and a Winchester 94AE. Most other books have load data using ruger actions/thompson center pistols, which are stronger and often have 8" barrels or longer

I shoot the SAME OUT OF BOTH..........Avoids confusion/safety problems and loading the 2 different. A good 357 mag load will perform out either a rifle or a pistol......If you want hotter. Go Bigger.

Ohhh, I stand corrected. OP is correct. In that case, yes, a number of us here do just that. .357 in a rifle is mucho fun.

If you are chasing maximum velocity then the very slow pistol powders or very fast rifle powders are where it is at.
Keep to standard 357 pressures and they are entirely safe in a revolver although muzzle flash will be severe. The longer rifle barrel will just make better use of the slow powders giving increased velocity at the same pressure.

While a few 357 rifles may be able to take loads above standard pressures I personally dont think it is worth the risk of those loads finding their way into a firearm that cant. It is the reason we have the 357 in the first place, it is possible to load the 38spl to 357mag levels in guns that can take it but catastrophic in guns that cant. Hence the 357 was created by lengthening the 38spl case to prevent it being loaded into a 38spl chamber.

That's all I use..........With 168 gr cast bullets.
