Anybody else having very slow photo downloads and I'm talking old dial-up slow. Been about a week now. Ookla speed test is showing my download speed at over 500 Mbps and this is the only site I'm having issues with. Photo downloads from my other forums, Reddit and Instagram are pretty much instant. If there's more than 1 photo on a page here I'll go look at something else and come back later to see the photos.

I always edit any photos I post here prior to uploading to around 500 to 600k.
I've noticed the ones I have trouble bringing up are in the 2.0 to 4.0+ meg size. Those with slower or poor internet service can make a sammich while pics that size appear.

It's a habit I got into on my other two forums. They limit images to less than one meg. Speeds loading of images as threads appear and saves space on the site's servers.

I think BOM is on the right track. I have noticed that a lot of images posted are several MB in size. A lot of forums limit the size of image uploads, or the forum resizes them during the upload. I resize my images to a little larger size than BOM, but I have tried to balance image quality for the viewer vs large file sizes. Most of mine run around 600 KB but a few run up to a meg. All are 1200 pixels on the long side.

It seems to me that 500 mbps should download even larger images rather quickly, but there are likely bottlenecks in the system somewhere. My internet speeds test in the mid 20s mbps, but most images on this forum load quickly, unless they are the really large files.

FYI, at the bottom of each image on this forum is listed the filename and the file size. Check that out when they are slow loading.

This image runs a tad smaller than most I post, but is 478 KB. If you look just underneath the image as DSC_9975-topaz-denoise.jpg (478.12 KB). After that it will show the number of times the image has been viewed.

Strange???, I haven't made any changes but today photos are now downloading a lot faster, opened a couple of fishing threads (not opened before, it's not a sub forum I visit) several had multiple photos and they all downloaded almost instantly.
