I have been contemplating getting rid of the tub and installing a walk in shower. Haven't had a bath in years.

We have never taken a bath in the 22 years we have lived here…

I only have showers in this house and miss a bathtub. On a daily basis I shower to get clean but every now and then like to soak in a tub. In Seattle the house had an oversized tub big enough for two people.

Sounds like you need a hot tub…

Our house has gone through at least three renewals. I spend most of my time on the ground floor, or walkout basement I guess. I have a bedroom down here that I can use if my snoring gets too obnoxious, (Old men snore), my computer room, and a full bath with a separate room with a tub and shower. Now it's just Carol and I so she uses the bath on the top floor which has a shower and a nice sized cabinet and mirror and I use the one down here in my so called den. It's just nice not to have to share. (See, when you get older that's not such a big deal anymore). On the main floor is another bath with a tub/shower combo. that's for guests.
That being said, I never use the tub. Haven't in years. I love my walk in shower and there is a storage bench beside it with a dressing mirror as well. I have a stone floor and it's always warm. We also have a hot tub in our three season room, but we haven't used that in years either.
Of course when Carol's four sisters come to visit they take over my space and I move out to the motorhome. Estrogen poisoning is real.

Sounds really nice. I had a nice master bath in the Farmhouse in Virginia. We had slowly done each room in the house, and only had the Kitchen renovation left when we sold the place and moved to Oklahoma. We got rid of the Garden tub there and put in a roll in shower, Marble walls, drop down seat in the shower, nice heated towel rack, double sinks... just like we planned.
Got here and the Walk In ADA shower was a cheap kit from Home Depot.. Ugh. Garden Tub beside it. We are about to start on the renovation of THIS bathroom.

Won't be as nice as the one in VA, but getting rid of the Cheap ADA kit, which wasn't ADA... and the garden tub I had trouble getting in and out of. We will put a standard tub in the bathroom in the hallway for Miss T to soak in when she wants to soak.
We had a nice hot tub on the Deck in Virginia, and I used it two and three times a day, for therapy. Looked into one here, but they have gotten SO expensive these days, for the good ones. Cheap Hot Tubs don't have the pressure for real therapy and maintenance and operation costs are double the good ones. Sadly, reading the reviews on Service from the dealers/manufacturers is just scary. May not want to risk the investment against the benefits.

I would come in from patrol, peel off the 38 pounds of gear, sit in the spa before bed. Get up, sit in the spa to start the day. Before getting geared up for work, sit in the spa. If I woke up in the night with a headache, sit in the spa. It really was therapy.

Sounds like a great project Coach. Hope you keep us updated with the progress, that’s always fun to see. Yep, that toilet has had it.
When we built our house we changed the hall bath from a tub with shower to a walk in shower only. My MIL moved in with us and this was her bathroom. She was in her late 80’s and couldn’t step over a bathtub. We had a seat and a handheld shower wand plus a grab bar put in for her. Our shower is also a walk in and I wonder if in the future not having a bathtub anywhere could be a sale issue??????

The realtor told us one bathtub somewhere was important, women like to soak.

Miss Tina does.

As far as resale goes…We don’t care.
My cousin and I are bachelors and don’t have any kids. Our house will go to nieces and nephews. It will be gravy money for them. I live in the SF Bay Area where houses are stupidly expensive and the market is always hot. Housing sells quickly out here. Our house has gone up over a million dollars in 20 years!
The workers are about to show up, stay tuned.

We do have a roughed in bath in the basement where a tub could be installed but I doubt the future lady of the house would want to go down there for a soak. Or, maybe that would be a good escape from other distractions.
Best to you Coach with the project, always fun to remodel. Looking forward to more progress reports.

Day two was just copper piping for the new shower head and handle setup.
Got rid of the old bathtub faucet and handle.
