Not a Rib Lake Osprey

Since the Bird, the Osprey Baseball Team, and Wildfires have all been forum topics recently, this story stood out.

Here's the headline from the NY Times today: A Fish Falls From the Sky and Sparks a Brush Fire in British Columbia

Officials say a flying osprey dropped its catch, which then struck power lines, causing sparks that ignited dry grass.

All the osprey nests I’ve seen are right by the water. I wish they would have given more information about where the nests I’ve seen was.

I had an Osprey that had a nest and was living in a 115' tall pine tree in our front yard in Virginia Beach. We had a severe storm and a lightning strike hit the tree. The Osprey was in his/her nest and was thrown out and fell spiralling down to the ground smoking all the way.

That’s an interesting story CT. Mother Nature works in mysterious ways for sure. We watched a small hawk in a large pine above our yard enjoying a meal. Lots of hawks about but this is the first time we got to watch one so close enjoying breakfast.

A couple of seasons ago a pair of Cooper's Hawks built a nest about 40 ft above my backyard water garden and raised two fledglings there. That was an amazing summer. I hoped the mated pair would return to that nest the following year, but it was just a one off.

There were four birds lined up when I went for my camera!!!
