I was recently diagnosed to have Benign prostatic hyperplasia .... it is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate gland .... this is the most common benign tumor found in men ....symptoms of BPH are present in about one in four men by age 55, and in half of 75-year-old men ... by age 80, some 20% to 30% of men experience BPH symptoms severe enough to require treatment .... an enlarged prostate can cause symptoms such as blocking the flow of urine out of the bladder .... it also can cause bladder, urinary tract or kidney problems.....until recently surgery was the only option .... they now have minimally invasive procedures that open the prostatic urethra .... they also have drugs that can relieve symptoms either by shrinking the prostate or by relaxing the prostate muscle tissue that constricts the urethra .... based on the recommendation of a doctor I decided to go with UROLIFT surgery ====> https://www.urolift.com/ .... I had the outpatient surgery 11 days ago .... lets just say the first few days of recovery were unpleasant and I'm happy they are over .... I do believe the operation is a success and do hope it will live up to being a permanent

good thoughts appreciated ..... according to the surgeon who operated on me, BPH is the most common urinary system issue that his practices sees .... I was told that to expect after the surgery and he didn't miss a thing

Glad it was just BPH. I lost a brother to prostate cancer. I've had to deal with bph myself, although it's not to the stage of medication or surgery, yet. I've gone through two prostate biopsies, and the indignity of several urocuff tests. One of the issues with getting older.

The good news for prostate cancer is that it is readily treated if caught early, and for some men and cancers no treatment is recommended, just careful watching, as many types tend to be very slow growing.

yep, that most certainly seems to be the case .... I'm thankful that it is benign .... my Dad had prostate cancer .... as I remember they inserted some radioactive pins in it .... bottom line, he lived with it for a long time and it wasn't the cause of his death

Yeah, a lot are so slow growing that, depending on your age, they just watch them and count on you dying of something else before it spreads. Unfortunately, some are more aggressive and must either be dealt with, or they will deal with you.

We went to the Mayo last week and I got the results today. I have a micronodular basal cell carcinoma in the corner of my left eye.
Those savage feminine dermatologists also burned off about a dozen more during the visit. (On a side note, they were good looking).
Now they recommend I undergo Mohs micrographic surgery to remove it. (I don't know what that is).
So now we have to make an appointment and get the procedure done.
Getting old is a bitch.

My wife had the same on her face, the surgeon did margins, got it on the first try, cauterized it to stop bleeding, then sutured it. We then followed their instructions and kept it moist with Vaseline and covered. Now the sutures are dissolved and she is not treating it with Mederma scar gel.

Mayo is a good outfit .... do hope the treatments work

My wife had MOHS surgery on her eyelid of all places. Surgeon had to make three cuts to get it all and she healed up nicely.

Mine is on the nose right next to the left eye. Right at the corner of the eye in fact. I'm not sure what to expect.

Back to prostate surgery, I was having a problem with urine retention. Luckily my doctor got me into one of the best urologist in our area, she is a very busy no nonsense kind of doctor and she insisted on scoping my bladder. What she found was the bladder had enlarged substantially, bladder stones formed and the reason was my median lobe of my prostate enlarged to the point where it had domed up my bladder to the point where the bladder wouldn’t empty. She recommended robotic surgery and a great urologist/surgeon. I used an interim catheter twice a day until I had time for the surgery. The surgeon found my bladder was 5 times its normal size, she opened my bladder removed the stones, then trimmed the median lobe of the prostate and then resized my bladder. I had a Foley catheter in for 11 days, checked bladder for leaks, removed the Foley and life has returned to normal. Everything functions normally and all biopsies showed no cancer. Life is good.
Prostate pills and supplements are a bandaid and will never cure/solve the underlying problem.

good to hear that your issue is being well handled .... totally agree with the need to get real medical help for a cure
