Tragedy in North Idaho

as most have probably seen on the national news we had a terrible tragedy locally yesterday. Some evil person started a wildfire just outside of Coeur d’alene Idaho and when the firefighters arrived he opened fire with a rifle on them. Two firefighters killed and a third fighting for his life. This area is public property with a trailhead located there and is crisscrossed with hiking trails. A very popular place especially on a beautiful Sunday like we had yesterday. The scene is located about 30 miles from my place as the crow flies. So sad.

Emergency responders risk their lives every day in the performance of their jobs. It's awful that they get targeted by evil subjects and taken from their families and communities.

I will never understand that evil. Just sickening.

When it's a first responder of any type that's been targeted, it's doubly difficult to process because these are the folks we literally rely on for life support. Why would anyone want to harm them?
But, the list of sad events in my life grows larger every day and there will not be a good outcome in Idaho.
There's a novel that was made into a film that portrays our inability to process insanity like this; No Country For Old Men by Cormack McCarthy and the movie by the Cohen Brothers.

Very sad. Firefighters are heroes on a daily basis.
Prayers for the families of the fallen and prayers for the firefighter in the hospital.

There is a song by Charlie Daniels call Simple Man. Within that song is a verse that refers to a punishment that should be applied in this case.

When my daughter told me he had shot himself, my reply was shoot him again.

Being a firefighter for 25 years I never thought about being shot on a call. This is just terrible, I’m with Cofisher shoot him again.

Shooter was a 20 year old kid and it looks like he may have used 12 ga slugs for his assault. The details are still a bit sketchy. The injured firefighter has been upgraded to stable so that’s sure good news.

Heard on the news that Tunnels to Towers is planning on paying off the mortgages for the two firefighters who were killed. No word on the third firefighter who was severely wounded including possible spinal damage.
Hats off to Frank Siller and Tunnels to Towers.
Thank you!
