Range demographics

I go to the range every Sunday at the same time. you can go online to reserve your spot. Because of that you become a "regular" with a bunch of other guys. We talk guns and BS while waiting for our time. A couple of weeks ago one the guys mentioned that there seem to be more minority groups showing up. I had not really noticed but since then I took more notice and he seem to be correct. Me being a nosy guy made friends with an Asian family that shot together. New shooters with a son and daughter in the the Air Force who suggested that they arm themselves. I did not inquire further. Not smart to talk politics when both party's are holding weapons. However, I was intrigued so I asked the RO I knew best if he saw a trend. He said all the staff had notice the increase especially Asian ethnic groups since the election. I know that Wake County (operators of the range) kept track because you have to fill out questionnaire before each session. One of the questions is what race you are and that requires an answer or you can't go on. I usually check Pacific Islander ( I'm not) None of their business what color my skin is. Why do they want to know? Anyway, just an observation by a very paranoid individual.

I agree, what does it matter? Most times, I am the only one at the range, a private club. However, I have noticed membership increasing since COVID. When you join, you are asked to give a reason why. Most say to practice for self-defense, a few are women and other ethnic groups. I typically do not interact with other members, except during Youth Fest and an occasional meeting. But, I will state that more people of all backgrounds seem to be exercising the 2nd Amendment.

I think I'm also going to be a Pacific Islander, for the exact same reason too.

My local range is one of the last outdoor ranges open in the area.

Because of this I see a lot more ethnically diverse people there. The town is predominantly white but I live in the SF Bay Area where I’m quickly becoming the minority.

I would say it’s still majority Caucasian shooters, but definitely more diverse.

They do not ask what your ethnicity is…

I think I'm also going to be a Pacific Islander, for the exact same reason too.

On any form that asks my race, my go to is to “identify” as a “first nations” female. At some point I can use this to my benefit if the woke joke continues past its best before date.

Our club/range is likely 98% Caucasian, but I’ve literally never seen another person at the range over the 3 years I’ve been a member at this one. I’m perfectly happy to keep it that way too.
