Three Years Ago Today

I closed on my house three years ago today. On the 15th I crossed into Wisconsin in my motor home and stayed the night at a truck stop along I-94. On the 16th I saw my new home for the first time. I took a huge gamble buying sight unseen but it paid off.

It was subzero and the wind was blowing hard and the power went out the first night and I thought to myself what the heck have I done. The power was out for about four hours. I haven’t lost power since except for a few 30 second outages.

I’ve really done a lot and figure this will be my last summer of major projects. I still have the interior of the shop to complete and the final landscaping. Then I can have more fun time going places.

Good for you, Gene. The Midwest picked you and can’t be happier that you are there.

Happy Anniversary Gene.
I know for me, the more work I do on things like cars, boats, and yes, especially the house, the more it becomes "mine". The sight unseen purchase shows you have a high tolerance for risk, and your willingness to take what you have and make it what you want. That always works, and I'm sure you will continue that process.
Cheers!

Man, three years….seems like last week. I remember when you were nomadic living in your motorhome. You’ve done a lot in three years but I bet you have enjoyed it all.

That risk worried me a lot. I did have an extensive inspection done including infrared pictures of the wiring and plumbing. The inspection was actually a lot better than what I would have done visually in person. And I spent endless hours reading about the demographics.

Thanks. You were a life saver to take me to Ephrata to pick up my Outback and trailer.

Gene, you found a little piece of heaven and made it even more heavenly. I never get tired of seeing the pictures of your place, both inside and out.

I think it fits me. I’ve spoken with a few families that looked at it and decided the house was not made for kids. I agree and think it’s great for a single person or a married couple. And it’s good for entertaining a half dozen people. We play cards here several times a week. The upper shop will be a three season party area for up to 50 people when it’s completed.

For those that don’t normally read check out the garage and road thread.
