Boy, retirement sure does have it's effects on people

Well, first off, Mary has been burning the candle at both ends lately since retirement. She is still visiting her mother, more so now, and taking care of our grand daughter more. Her other grand parents are in FL for 3 months. We pick up the slack. Well, if you don't recharge, eventually you get run down. Last week Mary got the flu. I did a solo with the granddaughter last Thursday. A week later, Mary's flu is now pneumonia. I'm up for solo duty tomorrow. I caught the same thing granddaughter and her parents had last week and it played out over the weekend. A very short lived flu.
Anyway, you'd think Mary would be resting, right? Well, no. During this time I've done what I can and tried to stay quiet. I was just looking at the forum and she called out. What did she need? To tell me the dog "we" adopted just came out of the shelter for the first time. It was headed for euthanasia when Mary couldn't help herself. She sent me one picture. Apparently while ill and on her sick bed, she was watching videos and looking at other pictures. All I know is it's a male, red tick hound mixed breed type, with who knows what else is there and he's coming from Texas.
Knowing her, we will have to pick him up at the airport and get him out of the first class seat ourselves.
To be fair, she talked about him for days. I kept saying no. I think there was one yes in there somewhere from me.

Stay tuned. Me, I'm going to research what a red tick hound is.

Happy wife, happy life. We have a ferule cat that Carol fell in love with years ago. It still tries to bite me.

My Niece is picking up a dog coming from Texas this week. I asked "Are there no dogs in shelters local?" The reply " I saw this dog and knew this was the one". I hope the dog thinks the same.
Retirement does have different effects on everyone. That is probably one of the reasons I am still working part time. What else am I going to do? Probably don't need to find out.

I love other people's dogs. I don't travel anymore but with cats I could make sure they had plenty of food and water and could leave them on their own for several days.

I had a dog a long time ago. I couldn't raise the two kids and keep up with him after the divorce, so he went back to the kennel we bought him from.
We had cats, very long lived cats. The last one made it to 19 years old.
We are ready for another dog I guess.

I dont hate cats but cats for me are not a choice. Every cat I have ever had has destroyed furniture from there continual desire to sharpen their claws. My mom loved cats and as a child I watched those 2 cats destroy our furniture.

Time to put your foot down. It appears that Mary has enough to do with her mother, granddaughter, life and YOU. Enough is enough, time to realize that life is too short and focus on what is really important in your lives. It’s not a dog.

.... Every cat I have ever had has destroyed furniture from there continual desire to sharpen their claws. My mom loved cats and as a child I watched those 2 cats destroy our furniture.

That's a training thing. We had 45 years of cats and everyone one of them was trained early on not to claw the furniture.
