My Old West 44-40 set now complete....

Post by fortyshooter » Tue Feb 11, 2025 8:20 pm

Well the order I placed with American Derringer for a custom 44-40 derringer finally made it from Texas today! Placed order around first week of Jan. 2025 and was surprised to get an email last week saying it had shipped and even though coming by USPS got here sooner than I expected.
Nice and polished and the derringer locks up smooth and tight with no endplay the hammer pull just a touch stout but trigger pull is really nice much better than my old Bond Arms. The folks did a great job on this and will have to wait for this cold/sleet/ snow/ rain mess to move out to get some first shots in. All my 44-40 ammo loaded right up and I slugged the bore which measured .429 just as I had instructed...I did send along one of my reload dummy rounds for them to fit. The carry load for the derringer will be those 185 gr. full wadcutters which were checked at 900 FPS out the six shooter and well within mid range of 44-40 load specs.
The derringer now joins in with the 1892 Winchester and the matching Cimarron 6 shooter all in classic 44-40.

Using what I had laying around I made up a nice holster for the derringer. All I did was add a retaining strap from a piece of leather I had plus a couple of snaps. It will get the job done either on a belt or swap it on my shoulder rig.
