Interesting phone call today

Post by daytime dave » Fri Feb 07, 2025 8:10 pm

I was working a little overtime at work today when I got the most interesting phone call I've had in a while. The caller was a fraternity brother from 40 years ago in college. He was tracking down members and asked if I was .....me. I remembered him immediately. He was a year ahead of me.
He inquired about several in my pledge class that I hadn't thought about in decades. Once he uttered their names, I remembered almost all immediately.

I haven't kept up with anyone from college or high school in many, many years.

There is a reunion of the chapter and I'm hoping I can go.

That made my day today.
Some days I'm Andy, most days I'm Barney........

I'm a life member of The Vietnam Vets of America and in their quarterly magazine they have a column where you can post your unit number and phone number. I recently phoned one of my comrades from 1966 in Vietnam who had posted. We had a nice long visit about old times.
It was fun.

I don't do most reunions, but Military Members who would like to reconnect should check out this website...

www.togetherweserved.com

They have a page for each branch of service, and it's free; although you can join to help support the site.
You can build your page for free, and as you build the page showing your military history, the ALSO There info pops up showing other members who were there at the time you were. I found a number of old friends thru the site.

You can also search by name, or unit.
There are forums as well.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.

My 30-year anniversary was in 23. Like the 10, 15, 20, 25, I could care less. I wasn't one for school spirit or overly large friend groups. Most of my friends didn't go to my school.

I think that's a product of moving so much as a kid. I met my wife at 19 after I was graduated. We've never looked back.

My 50th was in '22. I did not go. I did have some phone and text conversations with the coordinator. I had know her since before 3rd grade.
