I have been a big country music fan all my life, grew up in a family of them. Always been a fan of DAC. I remember an anecdote of an incident regarding Glen Camp's big hit, "Rhinestone Cowboy." The song came out and raced up the charts...
Well, DAC was considered more Outlaw Country and travelled in different loops touring than Glen did, and WAS on tour. Painted down the side of Coe's tour bus was his nickname at the time, "Rhinestone Cowboy," and when Glen's song tore up the charts, he thought it maybe, could be, might be, pointed, at him. He, after angrily thinking about it and getting madder and madder, ran out into the lot, and painted over the custom logo down both sides of the bus...
In an interview several nights later after one of HIS performances, Glen Campbell was asked about his reaction to David Allen Coe's reaction to the song, and the possibility that it was directed AT him.
Campbell's response may have made things worse...
"David Who?"
