How are our forum members who live in areas currently affected by the vicious winter weather/snow/ice doing?

I hope all who are affected by the blizzard conditions are well and with electric service and other utilities.

Yes, I hope they're all doing ok HF. We're supposed to get some of our own at the end of the week. We're kinda due down here.

Snow is a major inconvenience in South Carolina (I have never seen a snowmobile in the flesh, only on TV) but actually somewhat rare. What I really despise are ice storms. Damages trees, brings down power lines, causes traffic accidents when people don't stay home and other maladies.

I hope our fellow forum members can avoid the worst this weather can bring.

Oh, don't hate me because I have never seen a snowmobile. I have to live thru' South Carolina summers.

My wife says western North Carolina can expect winter weather this coming Friday or Saturday. Be prepared.

Not bad here in central W TN, just cold. It never got over 27 here yesterday.
Suppose to get to 35 today and I think we have a chance of a little snow Thurs.

We are getting lake effect snow right now. It looks worse than it is outside.
I've seen plenty of snowmobiles, lol. I've never owned one, they just don't do anything for me. I have plenty of acquaintances who are now getting their money's worth out of them. The last few years were almost snow free. This year things are more normal.
Snow shoeing might be on the horizon soon.

Weather is calm here with barely a skiff of snow. It’s been in the single digits at night and teens in the day which is normal.

The hills are normally alive with the sound of snowmobiles but this year just like last year there isn’t enough snow. The winter economy here runs on snow.

Sunday afternoon, Inch and a Half of Snow, Sunday night, Rain, overnight Freezing Rain (approx 1/4 Inch). Power only blinked twice. We were some of the lucky ones. No snowmobiles here either, lol.

We've got two old snowmobiles out in the barn that haven't run now for several years. When the boys were living here
we used to ride a lot but Carol and I just got too old and tired to suit up and ride.
I have at least two snowmobile suits and helmets hanging in the mud room closet too.
It used to be great fun to ride them on our lake.

What's a snowmobile??
I've actually seen a few, just not many around here.
But, there is a fella here that used to run one on the drag strip.
I never saw it, but know he did quite often.

No hating here, I’d much rather see a snowmobile than suffer the South Carolina summers.

So far we have had a very mild winter with little snow and warm temps. In a couple of days it’s supposed to get cold here, not Minnesota or Wisconsin cold but lows in the teens. Thankfully we are getting lots of mountain snow so our skiers, boarders and snowmobile folks are having lots of fun.


But back to the original topic, my sympathies too for the members who live in the harsh conditions I’m seeing on the news. Yuk!

So far been very mild here too. Temps have been mostly pre-spring like. Rain - some days feels like the typical Northwest moderate to heavy rain and then days go by without. Unless we get some good hard freezes we're going to have a a very buggy spring and summer.

I had an old (made in the 70's) snowmobile, was always getting stuck in deep snow and it had not much in the way of suspension travel. The newer ones are so much better that there's no comparison. Even a friend's the early 80's model was so much better, he let me ride it once and on a track that would have been beating me up it was very smooth riding, I looked at the speedo and I was doing 60. Expensive though, "What is the average price of a brand new snowmobile?
A capable, entry-level snowmobile can cost around $8,000 while middle-range sleds can cost around $14,000. The most powerful high-end snowmobiles will cost quite a bit more and can exceed $20,000."

When I lived in Northern Virginia I used to fly home to Minnesota and ride with my Father and Brother. Dad had three old Ski Doo's. They didn't have much for suspension but it was a lot of fun. My Uncles and cousins also rode and we went on a lot of late evening rides together.

When I moved here in 83 I purchased three Yamahas that my boys and I rode. I still have two but one has a blown engine. The one that still runs is a Yamaha SEV with a 540cc engine. That is a heavy sled with fairly good suspension and a lot of power. It sits in the barn now neglected because I no longer have anyone to ride with.

See, it was a social thing.

And another storm coming thru the South this weekend!

We need snow here in southern Alberta. Too dry. Temps were sub arctic before Xmas but in the 20's and 30's right now. As for the wind, if it wasn't blowing 60+mph I wonder what was wrong.

The wife said we were due to get a second dose, I haven't looked into it myself.

I’m hoping for more snow for the snowmobile season to get started. The local winter economy depends on snow. Last year the trails never opened and they are still closed this season.

Even the entry level is more than I've spent on every car I've owned (excluding family cars) put together. Bought my first car in 1972.
