Annual Guide Dogs Sporting Clay shoot

This coming Saturday is my labor union’s annual Guide Dog Sporting Clay shoot. This is the 11th year of our local organizing this event and I have made all but one shoot when I foolishly planned a camping trip the same weekend. We started shooting trap and did that for several years until the local trap range was bought out by a school district in order to expand to two high schools. Just when I was starting to get better at trap . I started out in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s and the last year I shot a 94.

So with the closing of the trap range we now shoot at a sporting clays range. While I’m not as good at SC’s as I was getting at trap it’s sure a fun time. The course is set up on the edge of some farmland so we shoot both in the trees and open fields. Even across a pond. I’ll try to remember to take some pictures this year.

Guide Dogs is an organization that trains and provides seeing eye dogs at no charge to folks in need. A few years ago they expanded to providing companion dogs too. A great organization that our District supports with ten of thousands of dollars via fund raisers like this every year.

Our local VFW has purchased guide dogs for vets as well. Spendy but worth it I think.
I used to shoot skeet tournaments and won a few, (in my younger days). I have shot numerous
25 scores and a few 50s as well.
It's all fun.
