There has to be a better way !
Ever wonder why the USPS seems to always be losing money .... ? ..... the picture below shows the shipping route for a brake assembly for our camper that is in transit from eTrailer in Missouri to us in east central South Dakota .... it is supposed to be delivered today

Do they get paid by the mile? That seems ridiculous. Omaha is a straight shot from missouri.
Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

USPS is a total joke. I refuse to do business with those people at all. The only reason they are still in business is because of the tax payers

I've only seen that type of routing when shippers use Fedex/USPS Smart Post and UPS/USPS Surepost. Packages arrive at the Fedex/UPS local depots less than 10mi from here and then get forwarded on to Bellevue Wa, before coming back to be delivered by USPS.
I get excellent service from USPS shipping to my kids in Hawaii, but hit or miss service shipping to the east coast. Also, local mail service couldn't be better. We are lucky to have an excellent carrier.
DHL is horrible.

If your package goes through Los Angeles (probably other big cities too) by train you're very lucky to receive it.

Re: There has to be a better way !
The post office had some crazy zig-zagging in the recent years and I had believed they had it under control. That said, I've been using the USPS for over 35 years now continuously and although a minor problem here and there they have been consistently great. Total shipments have been well into the thousands and I'll give them a 99% rating. Recently they have offered a new Ground Advantage to, what I believe, is to compete a little better with UPS and others. The service is a little bit slower, but impressively cheaper. They still have Priority though for faster service. Still a USPS fan !!

When we have to do the shipping on our own dime, we use USPS Priority Flat Rate. Very reasonable pricing.

I agree, I use Flat Rate myself but only if it can fit. They have about 5 different size boxes, but their large boxes aren't really that large.

The "If it fits, it ships" is wonderful. My daughter in Hawaii, needed new disk brake rotors. Very expensive to get them locally, and would still have to be shipped in. I bought them here, made a custom reinforced box that would fit inside the USPS flat rate box. Took less than a week to get there. Very heavy! I felt only a little guilty taking advantage of the flat rate.Cowboy Gun Fan wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 2:37 pmI agree, I use Flat Rate myself but only if it can fit. Re: There has to be a better way !
Well here is my Postal mystery from yesterday.... Was awaiting delivery of a small package of replacement key fobs for our alarm system and latest word from shipper was it was shipped several days ago and a USPS notice came in my email as normal that a package was out for delivery yesterday.
So I down at my range cutting grass early morning yesterday and my wife gets the mail in which was only one piece of junk mail and nothing else. I pull up the USPS future delivery notice and it said the package was scanned as delivered at 9:18 that morning in the mailbox. Checking several times in the house and mailbox no package found. Called the local PO and they said it was a small package but could not verify from where it was sent from or any name on it.
So this morning the USPS incoming mail email says a package is being delivered today and it says from company that the key fob is from and it was delivered this morning. The mystery is neither me or wife know what that other small package could have been. It was a joint shipping of Amazon and the USPS and checking recent orders from Amazon showed nothing coming or ordered. A real mystery!

Re: There has to be a better way !
I just learned the other day that it is possible for USPS to run a GPS search if a package was shown delivered, but never showed up. In my case the other day, we just gave it a little time. Evidently it got delivered to the wrong house and the receiver put in back in their mailbox as wrong delivery. We got it later on the next day.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 10:48 amWell here is my Postal mystery from yesterday.... It's been awhile but I had a package that Fedx said was delivered, nowhere to be seen but when I logged onto their site it showed a photo of where it was delivered that I recognized as my neighbor's porch.
Re: There has to be a better way !
For a while we had Fedex and DHL drop deliveries at our storage shed. Obviously not a habitable dwelling. Mounted a sign on a saw horse - Take deliveries to the house. Worked for Fedex, but DHL drivers were oblivious to the sign.
