2024 March Madness

Post by JEBar » Thu Mar 14, 2024 9:43 am

Conference tournaments to determine who gets into "The Big Dance" are underway all across the country .... Maureen's South Dakota State Jackrabbits are already in .... today is the second day of the ACC tournament, biggest surprise to me has been NC State's first round victory .... today is the second round so we'll be watching all day

It’s been a real frustrating season for me and my Gonzaga Bulldogs. They have had a tough season including dropping out of the top 25 for the first time in many years. I believe 170+ straight weeks (basketball season weeks) in the top 25. They finished second in the conference and just last Tuesday got beat in the conference tournament championship game. So instead of being a possible five seed and playing the first two games here in Spokane they will probably be an eight or nine and get shipped off to timbuckto somewhere.

We fans have been spoiled for too long and don’t know how to deal with diversity.

There’s a bunch of Duke haters on the Gonzaga forum and man did they light up the forum when Duke lost.

Good news is the Washington State Cougars men’s basketball team won their quarter final against Stanford yesterday. The Cougs haven’t had a meaningful basketball team since 2008. They took second in the conference including earlier this year beating number 5 ranked Arizona who are the conference champs.

NC State continues its record setting path tonight .... they are the first team in ACC Tournament history to play 5 games in 5 days .... tonight they against the UNC Tarheels for the conference championship .... they sure didn't look fatigued in last night's game but its hard to see how they can have yet another maximum effort

#1 Carolina just took care of #16 Wagner 90-62 in the first round of this year's tournament .... next up in round 2 for the Heels will be Michigan State which won't be anywhere near as easy

Gonzaga men’s team had a decisive victory over Mcneese St, led by 35 at one time in the second and won by 22. Subs got to play thus the score reduction.

WSU men’s team won also but in a nail biter. Beat Drake in Omaha.

after playing 5 games in 5 days so that they could get into the tournament, I was wondering if NC State would be able to refocus .... apparently they have and played well during their game last night

my bet is having Oakland taking our Kentucky by a score of 80-76 ruined a bunch of brackets .... from the ACC Clemson, UNC, NC State and Duke are all still alive

Gonzaga’s arch conference rival is St. Marys College from Moraga CA. St. Marys WAS a 5 seed and yesterday IN SPOKANE lost to 12 seed Grand Canyon University. How’s that for poetic justice, St. Marys comes to Gonzaga’s home town and gets upset. Love it!!!

Today Gonzaga plays Kansas at noon and Washington State plays Iowa St at 3:00. Great timing for me to see both games.

Go Zags
Go Cougs

UNC really looked bad in the first quarter .... thankfully, they got it together enough to send Michigan State home .... NC State is up by a few over Oakland at the half

Two of three local teams survived and advanced yesterday. Both Gonzaga men’s and women’s teams won but sadly the Washington State Cougs lost to Iowa State. First championship tournament appearance for the Cougs since 2008 back when Tony Bennet was the coach. Bennet currently is the Virginia coach. Well done and congrats to the Cougs for a great season.

the 68-team tournament is down to the Sweet 16 and four ACC schools remain alive .... heading into this week’s play, Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and N.C. State are still alive .... that's the most for any conference

And then there were 16. Jim, congrats to NC State, what a run they are on.

Rifletom, your son’s alamatar Purdue is next up for Gonzaga. Purdue beat the Zags earlier this year but thankfully the Zags have improved quite a bit since that game which was early in the season. I’m predicting a great game but Eddy just may be too much for the Zags.
