Special Day

Post by BigAl52 » Sun Dec 31, 2023 9:57 am

Last year one of my close friends returned to the gulf. Denny was a great guy from up around Butler,PA. He had been coming here for 13 plus years and was real close to most of the regulars here in the RV park that I have adopted as my winter home. Denny myself and 4 other guys always go shooting at least once a week. Denny was a big bird hunter back home and a member of Pheasants forever. His dog a white lab is well known in the park. Ellie remembers all the people in the park as well as all of the people who gave her treats. Everytime one of the work camper carts goes by when she is on a walk she wants to see it this one has a treat for her. Denny passed away 68 years old July 7th of this year. Denny had been having some stomach issues before he came down. While here he had to go the the hospital in Corpus. Later flying home because of a cancerous tumor in his stomach area. It was removed but Denny could not handle the chemo and passed after the third try at it. His wife Joyce and I stayed in touch and I was able to visit with her when she visited Denver during the year. Her oldest son lives there and she has a granddaughter. Some people had made arrangements during the year and her sons promised one of the other friends here in the park that Joyce would return this year. Her trailer was delivered here Thursday and I put it in its space on Friday am. It was really good to see her down here again. My wife and another friend went to see Joyce last night and she then came to our space for a visit will all of us. Denny is really missed by all but Joyce helps us all heal by her making the trip again. All of us who go shooting together have dedicated our shoots this year to Denny. Here is a pic that Denny sent me of Ellie that has been a screen saver on my computer for a while.

Al, I'm saddened by your loss.
He sounded like a very good friend. You are lucky to have known him.
Thank you for sharing some of your friend with us.
That's a pretty great photograph.

Dang Al, that’s a sad but nice story. If Ellie is there with Joyce give her a pat on the head for me.

Many thanks for all the condolences. Joyce is doing well and very glad she made the trip. We are scheduled to go out to eat with her and some of the other friends here this week.
