New wave of Illegals coming

Post by Vaquero » Sun Dec 03, 2023 8:15 am

Another invasion, only this time entering the country from the north. Minnesota, Montana and North Dakota will soon be inundated by Canadian-born Super Pigs. These wild ‘sus scrofa’ were originally introduced as part of a Canadian Agricultural program some Agricultural Minister dreamed up to help Canadian farmers. Unfortunately they didn’t produce additional income and the market for pork in general has dropped significantly since the early 2000’s, causing disappointed Canadian farmers to give up on the effort and let them run free.
They not only breed faster than domestic pigs but are better adapted to living in both cold and low forage areas. They are also smarter than both wild and feral pigs, quickly learning to hide from hunters and aircraft. Over 60,000 wild Super Pig sightings have been recorded in Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, with increasing numbers seen nearing the US-Canada border.
The Canadian government has admitted they cannot control the Super Pig population or migration. It has been estimated that even by killing 65% of the Super Pig population every year their numbers will continue to increase. US officials are confident they can handle the influx of these animals using tracking technology and air-dropped nets.

My thoughts are:

One positive point is these porkers won’t be needing transportation, medical care, food or shelter

Are these the same US officials who allowed fire ants to take over half the USA?

I'll bet they taste good, so if they are coming, I hope those who like pork get them in their sights.

Y'all up North planning on hunting these critters should invest in some target practice. They ain't as easy to kill as you might think, especially if they're running or charging you. .308 or 12 gauge is preferred, although a large caliber handgun is also used by some folks down here if it's up close and personal. In open country a helicopter with a door gunner works pretty well for groups (sounders). Popular in TX & OK, but expensive.

Targets for the easy shots.

A 40mm grenade would be appropriate on that sounder. :)

Seen similar, but the gal doing the shooting was pretty good. :)

Soooo, how tough are these critters? Don't know where this was, but was taken in 2021. Hog busts thru steel gate and keeps running.

And another one in a Missouri suburb last year.

This is why I don't step outside my house without being strapped. They're in every county, and it's estimated there are 500,000 statewide, causing $60million+ annual damage.

Gene look to me like she was shooting 223/556. Magazine size.
But I don't know for sure, didn't look like much recoil.

That's possible. I wouldn't recommend it if you're on foot tho. Too unpredictable, and a wounded pig is just as likely to attack as run. There's no restrictions on weapons for hogs in MS, and probably not in TX either.

I agree, I have several suitable calibers if I were going to pursue them.
These two would be among the choices, 16.5" 35 Rem. or the 18.5" 444P.

Those would work. Of course you wouldn't be able to shoot them in the 'burbs. HOA's would have a cow. Especially when you went to field dress it on your front lawn in full view of the neighbors.

There may be business opportunities for folks up North to invest some money to open hog processing operations.

Use a business name that will catch hunter's attention.

Pete's Pig Processing
Hank's Hog House
Bad Boar Butchering
Dine On Swine
Miss Piggy's Last Stop
Oinks Are Us

Interesting how we keep hearing about “all these pigs”, but I know a few hunters who live in southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, the supposed hot beds of pig activity, and not ONE of them has ever seen a pig on the loose??

I’d love to hunt pigs, but they are apparently very elusive.

Seems like a good time to invest in a .44 Mag BBSC…

None of my neighbors squealed when I took the 4x3 whitetail off my front porch last year
