I haven’t been shooting much lately. In the last six months my cataracts have gotten so bad I can’t see good enough. The doctor told me I can’t drive anymore. I set December 31st as a cutoff date so it wasn’t that much of a surprise.

Unlike driving I can still see good enough to shoot safely. The real issue is it’s not fun anymore. My surgery is set for January 12th so I’m counting the days.

I'll be praying that your surgery goes as well as mine did, and that you'll be able to drive after that.

My right eye surgery was scheduled for January 2nd. The doctor had a cancellation so now I am scheduled for December 5th. Very happy to get my eyeballs balanced out. I have been practicing plinking with an air gun using my left eye. I get a much clearer sight picture. But I can’t shoot worth a darn left handed so shooting right handed and left eye is awkward.
Hoping the best for your surgery, maybe you can get on the doctors list to get it done sooner if they have a cancellation.

I need to take meds starting three days before and they are going to mail them out right away. Normally they only send them out a few days ahead of time.

Best of luck, Gene. Bill and I are both nearing that point with cataracts, but Bill will need surgery sooner, probably within a year. Oh, I can still shoot fine, but scopes are definitely what I prefer now, not so much irons. Red dots also help.

The meds should be eye drops for the eye that will be done first. Three vials four drops a day. One at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and bed time. With a 3 to 5 minute wait between each. Then they taper off in the weeks following surgery. You should be given a set of instructions. You will look forward to being done with the drops.

That’s kink of how I remember the instructions.

Good luck with your surgery. Mine was a breeze and I was in and out within 2 hrs for each eye. As Seabee says the hard part was waiting in between eyes. I only had to wait a couple of weeks.

Hope it all goes well for you Gene. My wife had both eyes done several years ago. Myself I have not had anything done yet. I have to use 3 power readers for any close up work but for shooting I do well with my regular glasses.

I’m very near sighted and can focus as close as six inches. After surgery I’m told I’ll need readers.

Good luck Gene. I know my cataracts bothered me driving. I shot once a week to make sure that I was ok shooting while I still carried a gun before the surgery. I would have stopped carrying if I was not up to par on shooting.
