It was 11F last night and didn’t get above freezing all day. It’s a good thing I’ve been buying cold weather clothes. I just found some wool officers M51 pants for $30. They fit like a glove with the 14” rise.

I also found some winter over boots similar to gaiters except they cover the entire boot. You can’t walk with just them but work great with snowshoes. I already have heavy duty cold weather boots I bought just for snowshoes.

I plan on doing a lot of snowshoeing and walking the road. It’s safe to walk the roads with minimal traffic. Sometimes I can walk the entire three mile loop and not see a single car.

I've bee having fun riding the fat bikes out in the snow the last couple days. Even did a little XC skiing on the lawn around the house. Not enough snow yet for serious skiing, but I was skiing. Lots of fun.

It’s warmed up to 18F and heading to 40 for the day. The coldest I’ve seen it here in my two inters is -20F.

I still have two pairs of the nomex long johns I was issued over 30 years ago. The white ones, that look like regular long johns, not the green quilted ones. Anyway, I used to use them a lot during the winter when I was diving in a dry suit. Since then I use them maybe a handful of times a season. Most of my cold weather gear gets shopworn over the years rather than worn out.

About 25 years ago my electronic thermometer read -46F one sunny morning. That's as cold as I've ever seen it.
At that time the youngest daughter was still living here and of course both females felt trapped and just had to go
out somewhere, so she went to the city to visit her boy friend and then of course her car refused to start to come home,
so he brought her home and then his car refused to start, so I had to take him home. Then I had to get a new battery and
install it in her car so she could get it home. All this in temps near 40 below.

This of course was after I pleaded with the women to just stay inside for the day.

Oh yeah, and his car set here for almost a week because the hood was frozen shut so we couldn't jump start it.

I prefer wool outer garments; hats, overalls, pants, coats, mittens and gloves. I have battery heated gloves for my hands and battery heated socks for my feet.
As I've stated before, my favorite wool plaid is Malone, which is sometimes identified as Adirondack. It's grey with subtle red and green lines crisscrossing.

I did cold weather a couple times in the Corps.. Above the Arctic Circle. We were in a Fjord in Norway, and I was changing a Blade Fold Harness on the top of a helo ON the flight deck. It was so cold that everything had to be done with GLOVES on, including the safety wiriing of the bolts as needed. If you had touched bare metal in those temps, you would have frozen to it. We had to work for 30 minutes, then come in and warm up and then go back out. IT was COLD.

The flight deck was a sheet of ice and we had a snowball fight on the flight deck one morning. It was beautiful. I learned a lot. I learned I didn't want to live somewhere that COLD.. I did have some nice long johns, sweaters, thermals, layers, etc for working midnight patrols in the winter. it would get down into the teens, and a couple time into single digits. I was dressed for the weather.

In the Winter we call single digits a nice day and may even wear shorts.

Yup, and that's why I live SOUTH of you.
But... my favorite author's books take place in MN..
John Sandford's Davenport Prey Series.
Sometimes I get cold reading them.

I also love John Sandford but I'm currently reading William Kent Krueger's stuff. You might like him as well.
But it will make you feel cold as well.
