Fall Colors

I’m told this is an exceptional year for fall colors in Wisconsin. The dry summer has turned the leaves a rich orange and bright red.

On Sunday I’m planning a trip north on WI13 to Printice, then east along US8 then south on WI51 and then west on WI86 to see the colors.

Winter will be here by then. I took this picture this morning. I can’t wait to get my propane tank camouflaged. This is part of the 22 acres I bought.

Haven't even started to change here and most of trees near my place are cottonwoods and a few elms and they aren't that impressive when they do change. Some pretty trees in town but nothing like the large amount of colorful trees in your photos. The hillsides around us are grass and sage brush and a occasional tree. If you get up in the Cascade's forests the vast majority of the tree's are evergreens.

We have some trees changing, but most aren't yet. This area of NY has a lot of elevation change in the topography and that impacts a lot of things, tree colors included. Forecast so far is that it's mid-late October for peak leaf-peeper season this year.

That is going to be beautiful when in full color Gene. We should start seeing some color in a few weeks. Love of my life and I will be in Gatlinburg Tennessee the third week of October we should see some color there.
I was in Rochester NY years ago for training when the leaves were just starting to change. Then returned to NC for a couple of weeks. Went back to resume the final weeks of training expecting to see the area in all its colorful glory. From the air flying in the whole region was just plain very little color at all. They had a wind storm blow through and took virtually all of the leaves with it.

I really don't mind the white, it's the cold that gets to me. White just means I don't have to mow
and I can track animals really well. Anyway we're planning our Winter getaway now. I think we might
spend a few days in Aransas Pass visiting old friends. Might see you as well.
Our trees are turning slowly but a lot are just brown from the drought. The interesting thing is my Walnut
tree produced very few nuts as did the Hickory trees, however the Oak trees are dropping the biggest
crop of acorns I've ever seen. If you go into the woods right now at least wear a hat and maybe even
a helmet.
I gather walnuts and hickory nuts. Black walnuts are really good for flavoring cookies and cakes and hickory
nuts are similar to small pecans and can be flavored with things like honey.

I don’t mind the snow either and like you said it’s the bitter cold and wind that chills you to the bone.
I arrived in Wisconsin on February 15, 2021 so I missed half that winter. Then last year I escaped for two weeks in December and then another two weeks in January. This year I want to experience a full winter. Well until April. That month it’s not winter or spring. It’s just muddy. So this year I’m getting away in April.

Not yet, however, with the brilliance of the color in the pic I posted, I'm optimistic for some great color this year. BTW, my pic does not begin to show the vivid color of that branch of leaves.
It will come sooner here at about 4k ft. so I will certainly post some pics when the time comes if my optimism proves to be correct.

we've been talking about 3 day or so road trip .... the fall color season could be as good of an excuse as any

My neighbor has a Walnut tree on the property line that's just starting to drop. My neighbor doesn't mess with them so my friend always picks them up, we have a few squirrels and chipmunks around that get the ones that she misses. I don't mind the snow anymore either now that I don't have to snowblow and shovel it at 5 in the morning. I actually enjoy plowing it at home after getting up at my regular late hour and having my cup of coffee first.

Keep me posted on the Aransas Pass visit Coop. It aint far from where we are at.

Not much fall color here yet. The filbert trees, though, are dropping their nuts.
