I have no memory of those commercials.

I had the Johnny Eagle 1911 and it was too cool. I was painting a few models one day, and decided to paint my Johnny Eagle 45... I used the Silver and Gold paint to dress it up. I sprayed it with clear gloss model paint after.

We went over to the huge sports field complex a few days later, and were playing with our GI Joes. I had made a Cargo Chute with some leftover plastic from my folks putting plastic on the windows for the winter... (Remember people doing that way back when? before thermal storm windows?)... I was tossing the Tank up in the air to be dropped into enemy territory but it wasn't heavy enough to fall correctly. Then an idea hit me.

Now when you are playing Joes, you have to have your 1911 in your holster on your hip, so I tied the Johnny Eagle on the parachute and tossed it up in the air... it was perfect. Floated down like a dream...

Cop showed up a couple minutes later and walked calmly up and asked to see my 45... said it looked cool.
He hadn't drawn his gun, his baton, put us on the ground, or called out swat.

He just ambled up and asked if he could check out my cool 45.
I had put it back in the holster and I took it out and as I was taught by my stepdad, handed it to him butt first.
He grinned. "Johnny Eagle huh?" Shook his head. "My son has the same one, but it's not Silver and Gold, his is green." He handed it back and told us to have fun. He said he had seen the sun glinting off the metallic model paint and had to check it out. Maybe find something else to weight the chute now.

Great story about the cop, there was a time…

I did have the detective set and here's the story. Wanted it for Christmas but as luck had it I won it at a school fund raiser bingo game before Christmas! The good ol days of cool toys!
