Even with it being held here in Aus try as I might I cant get excited about it.
Started watching Aus match last night and fell asleep around 9pm before half time,

With 80,000 at the Australia v Norway match and 50,000 at the England v Nigeria match yesterday clearly some people are finding something in it.
Good to see the Aus girls get a win and progress to the final 8 but even a quarter final against England hasnt got me excited.

I never could see the attraction of soccer. The pros have some good kicking skills but kind of boring to watch for 2 hours and have a 1 - 0 score or even a 0 - 0 tie. Give me American football any day.

I've never had any interest in the sport, and as kids we never played it.
It just wasn't popular around here back then.
Now, I learned a few days ago that the daughter in SC just signed her 2 oldest up for the local soccer league.
I guess I'll be watching a little, the main thing is, I'm just glad to see them wanting to play outside.

Right, 0 to 0 most of the game. I also don't see much in it. Never mind going through all the trouble to ever attend one.

Locally sure is different. My grandson also plays soccer and it is great for them to get outside, playing a physical sport and getting away from electronics. A little like the good 'ol days like we had.

Good luck to the Aus girls, hope they go all the way and get the win for the home team. Because of politics I won’t say just how happy I am to see the USA women’s team lose.

I almost said the same thing, lol.

I was actually watching (as little as it was) when Sweden beat them.

A win for the Aussie girls and through to the final 4 but it took over 3hrs.
0-0 draw after 90minutes plus injury time 0-0 after 30min extra time and more injury time 10 shots in the penalty shootout

Soccer has been great for me.

If it wasn't for my drive to play College soccer I don't know if I would have gone to College

Played Youth, High school, D1 College and Semipro.

Played matches against: UCLA, BYU, UNLV, Cal, Stanford etc every year.

Played about 20 matches in Europe.

Coached 20 plus years both boys and girls. won several state championships.

Went to 8 men's World Cup matches in 1994.

Went to 3 Women's Olympic matches at the 2012 London games.

All great experiences!






I have mixed emotions on the USWNT. They managed to alienate half of the country with their politics. Its just a shame.

We will see a 1st time world champion this year. All the past champions are out.

Congratulations to Australia. They did this without Sam Kerr who is their star captain.

Exactly, four years ago my wife and I sat glued to our chairs watching the World Cup. Never been a fan prior but we became just that only to be so disgusted that we didn’t watch one second this time around. Sad.

A win would have been nice but I am not too concerned by the loss.
I have found all the hype and BS around our team this WC unbearable. Like I have said not a big fan of soccer but do keep an eye on how our teams go internationally. Media would have you believe its a team of nobodies that have come from nowhere to be in contention. Reality is its a team that contains some of the best players in the world that have been contenders for decades and just ignored by the media and public. Their worst result in the past 5 WC has been 9th place, they have beaten just about every team in the world at some point in the last decade. Suddenly half the country are experts and they are the lead story on every news bulletin everything they do is "history making" or "unprecedented". To give you an idea of just how much hype has been around them TV rating for the game were something like 45% every second tv set in Aus was on and watching the game.

Also disappointed in the media after the match, everything has been about how gallant Aus were in defeat with very little or no recognition of just what England have achieved. It was only a few months ago Aus soundly beat England in England. The England girls have come out with their 1st WC final on the line against a team that had beaten them just recently and are riding a massive wave of public support, playing at home with 100,000 screaming home town fans in the stands and put all of that aside and totally outplayed and outclassed them in every facet of the game.

Personally they have done exactly what I expected, with the benefit of a home WC and all that it brings they progressed a little further than they historically do. I would have loved them to have won but in a way it is almost a relief it has ended, The irony of it all is that after or the hype and media coverage I dont think their 3/4 playoff match is even being televised on free to air TV.
