I like to sit in the darkened office to use the computer so about nine years ago I ordered a Logitech K740 Backlight keyboard from Amazon. It was great. I have been using it ever since and loved it. A couple days ago, the BACK key popped off. The springy thingees on the back broke, it couldn't be popped back into place. A new K740 runs between $250 and $350.

I went to Amazon and found an x9performance illuminated keyboard with oversized lettering for old folks on the keys for $30. I really like it so far, and with one touch you can change the color of the backlighting. (seven choices) Just to see if it could be fixed, I contacted Logitech CS and chatted online with a rep. Nope, they don't have a repair capability, and the keyboard was LONG out of warranty or replacement, which I knew. I told the gal (Via Chat) that I was not adverse to paying a reasonble fee / shipping to have the key replaced, but at this point was not interested in paying two or three hundred dollars to replace the keyboard, I'd stick with the cheap keyboard with the two year warranty. I thanked her for her time and moved on.

I got an email about five minutes later saying she was going to look into the matter and see if there was anything they could do for me. I told her that was fine, email me if she came up with a solution. In the meantime, this cheapo keyboard types pretty good and looks cool in the dark.

$350? For the replacement? Not. I think we paid about $100 back then.
(The x9 normally has a one year warranty, but if you register the keyboard within 14 days of purchase, you get an extra year.)

BOM, you do know they have little pips on the F and J keys, so you can find them without looking.

Yup, before my memory issues... My first job out of the Corps was corrections, second was dispatch for PD. Had to type 50wpm to be considered. I was well above that. We were typing 50+ while talking on the phone to a Robbery in progress and dispatching police and EMS. Geez, I couldn't do that these days.

I like the backlit keyboard for all the other stuff, the function keys, delete, control pairs, etc. Stuff I don't use all the time. Plus it adds a soft light to the darkened room.
