NOT with an electric car you don't!

A couple of years ago we were on the Florida Turnpike late at night. I pulled into one of the Kiosks to
get gas and there was a line of cars off to my left. I thought that was strange and then I saw the EVs
all backed into charge with twice as many waiting for a turn. I filled up with gas, grinned at them and
left.

Looks like they're camping out while waiting.

No Electric car for me, lol.

Friend of mine took that picture at a local Wawa quick stop.

Only Charger I want is a 69 Dodge.

That gives a new meaning to the term charge card. I saw a photo of a charging station powered by a diesel generator. Maybe it was painted green.

Maybe it would be a better idea to just power vehicles by diesel.

Oh, wait a minute...

I see a real problem if the electric grid should fail. I guess one might need a GAS powered generator to charge their EV.

Can you imagine everyone comes home from work and plugs in their EV . Guess what the grid can't handle the sudden load.and nobody goes anywhere the next day.

Yep just not practical yet and the ICE much more dependable for long distance running and hauling.

There are already parts of the country asking EV owners to wait until after 9 pm to plug in their “cars”. The people buying them to “save the planet” should Google lithium mining. Bit of an eye opener. I’d be really curious to see what your home electrical bill looks like after you buy an EV. Between that, the cost to buy and install a charging station, the up charge in price of the car, and all the other associated costs, I bet you are spending more than you would on gas or diesel. It really depends on which “science” you believe as to whether it’s a good thing for the planet too.

I drive 2 V8 powered 4x4s, so you can guess I’m not getting in line to buy a Tesla anytime soon.

I have nothing against electric cars and those who choose to own them but as mentioned above it’s all about image and virtue signaling and not about ecology.

Have no use for one, I don't want anything someone else can shut down at a moments notice without my permission.
I'll take an internal combustion engine over an electric any day of the week.
If I were to say how I really feel about 'em and the government trying to shove them down our throats I'd be banned.

If I could afford one I'd buy a Hybrid-EV. The ones that run on battery most of the time, but are backed up with a gasoline engine. Current examples are the Prius Prime and the Nissan e-Power. Neither brand, though, appeal to me.

I have ridden in a Tesla that a friend owns, and it is a very nice ride. But he didn't buy it to "save the planet" as many believe it will do. He bought it because it really hauls and handles well. He's into performance and fast driving, something his Tesla seems to do well.

Two things here that really bother me about the push for EVs: the only times I'd ever worry about all the electric cars sucking up juice is when there's no juice to run the pumps at a gas station. That would be a bummer, fer shure.

But the whole push to buy these EVs for environmental reasons, or to somehow "strike back at big oil companies" is (I feel) laughable and hypocritical. Besides the lithium mining problems for batteries mentioned above (and issues with their disposal), just stop and think about how many petrochemical products go into making all the things on a car. A short list would include any wiring insulation, plastic parts, tires, and a lot more. All made from oil from the ground. And what's the most common way most of the parts for an EV arrive at the assembly factories? Why it's usually diesel powered vehicles of some sort, isn't it? Or by gas powered airplanes? You won't really make the world any cleaner by buying an electric vehicle. I wish folks would stop and think about all the factors going into the making of these things, and some of the "incoveniences".

No, from a performance standpoint, if you're into that sorta thing, electric motors make a lot of torque and offer some nice performance. I used to compete in Observed Trials competitions for dirt bikes. Those competitions aren't races, they are a test of balance and technique to go over rocks, boulders, logs, hills, streams and such without putting a foot down. Trials bikes are very quiet, and I can ride mine on my property without bugging my neighbors. I rode an electric trials motorcycle once at a competition, and it was sorta neat. It would be even quieter than my Gas Gas trials bike, but is sorta more difficult to ride, as it has no clutch. Trials riders depend on a delicate use of the clutch to find traction. But anyway, the guy that brought that electric bike to our match (located many miles from nowhere) would have to charge his bike when at a match with a gas generator. Took approximately 30-40 minutes of charging to complete a 6-8 mile long loop of sections to ride, and we usually ride these loops at least twice. The rest of us could dump some fuel in our bikes, oil the chain, and wolf down a sandwich in what, 10 minutes?

Having said all that, I do really like my electric weedeater. I really like not having to yank my repaired rotator cuff out of socket to start it the way I had to with my old Ryobi gas weedwhacker......

My wife’s cousin just bought a Tesla and I took it for a drive. Man, that thing accelerates. I drove it on the private road in our community which is tree lined and a long stretch has no houses. I had the illusion of the trees alongside the road moving just like the stars when the US Enterprise starship used to accelerate in the old show Star Trek. Seriously, I understand it was just an illusion but it was pretty incredible.

So as stated above I can see owning one for the performance but the environment “advantage” is just hyperbole and another example of hypocrisy speak from certain sections of our society.

My neighbor just bought a RAV4 Hybrid for his house in Italy. He is a Cummins diesel truck driving retired railway engineer who loves his diesel power. Says the thing is amazing to drive, but he’d never go full electric.

I am sure that Teslas are really fast but for how long and at what cost? Most likely for the price one could get a very nice IC. vehicle and with the change buy a lot of fossil fuel for it and not have to wait in line to refuel.

I was getting my oil changed yesterday and a guy had a 49 Ford Flathead with glass packs. One sweet sound when he backed off it. Let’s hear a Tesla do that.
