ANZAC day for anyone not sure what this is about
25th April is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served

We had a bunch of Aussies li Vietnam where I was. They were wild and crazy.
I had a good time with them, but I learned not to piss them off.

The battery I was in was attached to the 1st Australian Task Force. I’m still in contact with three although two were there before I was.

I am certain they were more than glad to have you, especially after Long Tan.
Long Tan was the biggest single day loss of life for Australia in Vietnam when a Company of ADF found themselves under attack from at least a regiment of VC.
2/35th were part of the artillery support that helped save the day.
Plenty of documentaries and even a movie made about the battle for anyone interested.

I wasn’t there in 1966 but was in 68 and 69 and was there April 18th, 1970. The two diggers I mentioned were there in 66.

We usually have an ANZAC day shoot on the farm with old military rifles. This year myself, daughter and son decided to have a dawn remembrance hunt with sporterised military rifles.

My daughter shot a doe with a 303 Parker Hale no4 conversion shooting 215gr Woodleigh.

I carried a Mauser 89 rebarreled in 7.65x53 and my son a no4 Longbranch 303.

A couple Enfields and a Mauser. Nice. I collected Enfields which were mostly Lithgows.

My only contact with Aussies in VN was at an in country R and R in Vung Tau. The lesson taught was that you don’t try to match them drink for drink.
