Daily Exercise
I usually don’t carry my phone with because I don’t want it to control my life. Today I stuck it in my pocket the entire day. I was surprised at how much exercise I get just dinking around the house and walking down to get the mail.

Re: Daily Exercise
Not sure how many floors I climbed today.
But up and down the ladders all day made me tired as heck. Working by yourself on this job SUCKS.

Did you go up and down 55 floors today or does it just look at elevation changes?Sir Henry wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 10:11 pmI usually don’t carry my phone with because I don’t want it to control my life. Re: Daily Exercise
It reads elevation changes and converts it to floors. I’m guessing half the elevation changes was me going up and down the stairs. The rest was me outside.

Re: Daily Exercise
Good timing Sir Henry. Just a few days ago I loaded a step counter on my phone. I’ve never cared before but our insurance will pay us $10 each per month for 5,000 steps. I told my wife I didn’t want to go the effort of tracking and recording for 10 bucks.
But this step tracker does it for me. Yesterday I just putzed around the place splitting firewood and going general stuff. No hikes or long walks. End of the afternoon my step count was 8900. I was very surprised to see that. So maybe I’ll do the insurance thing as my normal day will meet the goal. Oh, we only need to do the steps for 10 days per month. Going to be interesting when I start golfing as that is lots of steps and I have never counted them before.

I clamp my Fit Bit to the blade on my Sawzall, then clamp the Sawzall in a vice, and turn it on for around 20 minutes. Gets my steps in early, then I can slack the rest of the day.......

Re: Daily Exercise
Somehow the term pedometer just doesn't sound right.
Whoops, I guess I didn't read it twice before posting. Forgot the "sound". Guess most of you figured it out anyway.

Re: Daily Exercise
Yesterday I didn’t go as far or climb as many stairs but I was still above my average. This morning I forgot to put my phone in my pocket and have already climbed the stairs three times. That’s the hard part remembering to have the phone on me at all times.

Re: Daily Exercise
I don't trust those step counters. But I do know how much walking I'm doing and when taking the dog walk know what the total distance is.
Any moving around is good. My wife has a Fit Bit type watch that sometimes hooks up to her phone when the planets all line up and she stays glued to the thing.

Re: Daily Exercise
Well, Shoot (since this is a shooting forum.....
)!!! I'm feelin' a tinge of guilt here.......
In the interest of "transparency" (a word I've come to be very skeptical of, as of late.....
), I gotta come clean......
I don't own a Fit Bit. I do own a couple of cheap pedometers, but don't like to use them.
I have 2 legs and a good road in front of my house. My house sits on top of a hill with a long gravel driveway down to the road. We have nicknamed the hill "Cardio Hill", because of its affect on heart rates. I actually walk between 2.75 to 3.25 miles when I walk, with the route set to include cardio hill between 2-4 times. I know my exact mileage by having my Gaia GPS track me, then confirming it with my dirt bike's odometer.
FWIW, last summer I did the "intermittent fast" thing (skipped breakfast; the fasting thing is supposed to be good for us folks with Rheumatoid Arthritis, so I do kinda kill 2 birds with one stone there.....) and walked the way I described above almost daily. I went from 248 lbs. (basically, I'm shaped like a bowling ball with a head on it
) down to 213 (more like a small fridge with a head on it.....
) lbs. by the end of summer/start of hunting season. I think most of my weight loss was purely from sweatin'.
Since I'm not a big fan of walking in the really cold (for us in western OR) or the rain and snow, I've "comfortably eaten" my way back up to 226.
Sigh...... But at least I'll have a lower start point than I had last year. If I could only learn to not eat like an idiot......
Added in EDIT: The part about "slackin' the rest of the day" was the only true part of my first post.
